While the Grand Canyon is...well, Grand, the Red Rock Scenic Byway is absolutely fabulous. The scenery changes as the sun changes and the colors of the mountains are simply stunning. You can easily drive it and the Rangers at the southern end of 179 are extremely helpful. If you want to hike there are plenty of trails.

My husband and I drove on this byway on February 17, 2017 on our way from Sedona to I-17. The views of the red rocks are gorgeous and breath taking. The day we drove this byway was a chilly and cloudy day. The views of the red rocks are probably more stunning on a sunny day. Even so, the views... More

Took this route back to PHX. It was more like driving on any other road, I guess. I was hoping for more, but it's not like it was ugly.

it has been a dream of mine to make it to Sedona to see the red rocks and today I did it! The park ranger at the front gate was very nice and provided me with a ton of information on the trails that lead through the park. The cost is 7.00 to get in. You start off at the... More

Our first trip to Sedona was fantastic, especially seeing all the red rock formations. We had heard it was beautiful but seeing it in person was great.Special thanks to the Chamber of Commerce for the maps and help with trails.

Wonderful views but limited areas where you could stop and take pictures so if possible ride a bicycle.

We drove the Red Rock Scenic Byway as we were leaving Sedona and heading to Phoenix for a business trip. It is right up there with some of the most beautiful roads we have traveled across the US. Lots of places to pull over and walk and explore as much or as little as you want, and the photo opportunities... More

We had planned to stay in the Sedona area for 2 nights and there is no question this is a must do. Stop at each and take a walk. It can be minimal exercise or a lot... you can see so much either way!! Just beautiful.

If you are in Sedona, then by all means drive this route. It provides several good vantage points of the outcroppings and main geological features around the city. Once finished, do take the 89A highway to Jerome! It is amazing.

This drive is so beautiful and peaceful. It was really windy and cold when I went but looking forward to doing the hiking that's available when I return (during warmer weather).
