Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I work in Cityscape and hence take advantage of all there is to offer on a regular basis. Cityscape actually encompasses a two block square area with a pedestrian bridge so that one can avoid the traffic (which is reasonable in any event as there are crosswalks with lights). The concept is "solid" - combine live/work/entertain opportunities into a well managed space. This includes some good restaurants, office space, a gym, retail, service based business (barber, hair salon) etc. Of note the Palomar is a nice hotel that has apartments as well and several restaurants/bars in a nice clean contemporary/modern setting. The Arrogant Butcher, The Strand, and a sushi restaurant are just a couple of options for eating. A comedy club and live music venue is included as well. Around the holidays there is an outdoor ice rink and outdoor music festivals and other events year around. The location is excellent - within safe walking distance to sports arenas and the convention center and paid secure public parking is available. If you aren't driving there is a light rail stop within a block. The project is well managed and maintained and "forward" thinking. So why not "5 stars"? Phoenix exploded in population during a time when downtowns weren't popular. Hence the true downtown doesn't compare to even much smaller cities developed in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Is Cityscape nice.... yes. Does it (or downtown Phoenix to be more exact) compare with top downtowns in the US - even cities with much smaller population... no. This isn't Chicago or New York (and you won't find the interesting architecture you would find in "old" cities like St. Louis, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh - many of which have undergone a true "revitalization". It is hard to "revitalize" what wasn't even here in the first place so there just isn't as much to work with. A large step for Phoenix to be sure but you have to consider that in context. For visitors many would assume a city the size of Phoenix would have an impressive downtown overall. It is better now than what it was but Phoenix still continues to suffer the impact of urban sprawl.

I don't think that it's entirely accurate to call this place an attraction. It's more of a multi purpose development area. We stayed at the Hotel Palomar (located on property) and checked out a number of the offerings in the CityScape because of the convenient location:
- Stand Up Live
- Breakfast Club
- Urban Outfitters
- Charming Charlie's
- Arrogant Butcher
- CVS
- Starbucks
- Ice skating rink
I did detailed reviews on Stand Up Live, Breakfast Club, and Arrogant Butcher under each of those establishments.
All in all I'd say that is is a great place for visitors, don't know that if I lived here I would travel specifically to CityScape for a day of entertainment.

Visiting Cityscape was a daily occurrence when I worked in downtown Phoenix, and I still go there whenever I'm in town. There are many restaurants from fast food (Chipolte, Five Guys, etc) to upscale (Arrogant Butcher). You'll find something no matter what your taste. And there's Standup Live if you love comedy.

I wish 0 stars was an options. $30 if you can't find your ticket! There was a line of people behind me and felt rushed. I had it in my hand when I got in my car. The guy 'helping' hit the lost ticket button and said it's 30 bucks. I found the ticket under my driver's seat 30 min later when I parked. Called their management office with time stamped ticket and time stamped receipt to be refunded for the difference of my 1 hour of parking. Their response was 'you agreed to pay the $30 so there's nothing we can do'.. I'll make sure to let the offices of the Renaissance building know how their guests are treated.

After a few visits to CityScape, Phoenix's supposedly 'exciting urban infill' development, i must say it is even worse that I expected. Far from being an authentic urban development that takes into account the surrounding urban fabric, it is yet another suburban development dropped on our city's downtown core. I guess I was naive to expect anything different from a project conceived in a Scottsdale business park.
CityScape represents yet another failed attempt to revitalize downtown. It is basically a morphing of downtown's last two failed 'urban infill' attempts: Collier Center and Arizona Center. Both these were supposed to enhance downtown's urban fabric. Both failed miserably at this goal.
The various civic 'leaders' who continue to push such misguided projects need to wake up. Instead of facilitating a downtown that ALL residents can enjoy, they have continued on the futile quest to keep suburbanites and tourists downtown after ball games or conventions by creating a suburban haven in the middle of the city.
These so-called leaders need to realize that what's needed downtown isn't foisting another new mega-project on us. Rather, we as a broad-based community need to radically rethink how we approach development. Until that happen, Phoenix will never realize the potential of being 'Arizona's Urban Heart."
Developments such as Cityscape don't take us closer to a true downtown; they move us further away. In Phoenix's desperate attempt to attract suburban tourists, downtown is morphing into a suburb itself.

This place has an automated parking garage that continues to let cars in even when it's full. If you enter the garage and its full you either drive around till someone leaves or pay to leave and go find another place to park. If you are lucky enough to find a spot it's $3 per hour. Then they close some of the exits so it can take a good hour to get out of the garage after an event. My guess is they do that to make another $3.

These two blocks are beautifully designed and extremely clean. There is enough here to cover all your travel needs. Plenty of restaurants and a few shops.

There is very little shopping in downtown Phoenix. This new area had hotel, restaurants, big fitness center, Urban Outfitters, pizza, ice cream, CVS and a few more stores. Whatever you need, you can find it here, It's about 3 blocks from the convention center.

Cityscape is a dramatic improvement over the former Patriots Square park. There is a Kimpton hotel, the return of retail stores in downtown Phoenix especially a drugstore, a health club and some local and chain restaurants. For downtown local workers, it is long overdue. For someone coming from out of town big city metropolitan area, they will rate it as small and average.

My son loves elevators. We like to visit CityScape to walk around and ride all the different elevators they have. A mostly positive environment, for the most part. Very vibrant at night.

I am visiting the Phoenix Convention Center and planning to drop by Cityscape when I have a free lunch time. I guess it is walkable, from the PCC to Cityscape and vise versa. Where would you recommend for lunch of one person in Cityscape? Thanks in advance!
Written 25 March 2016
Yes it is walkable - there are a number of options. Squid Ink is sushi. I won't say it is fantastic (this is the desert) but it is solid and they have non-sushi items too. The Arrogant Butcher is good if the weather is nice you would also have the option of sitting on the patio there (at multiple places actually) which is nice for a "solo" lunch as you can people watch. The Strand is Italian and though I have not been there it is a popular spot for people from the office so I assume it is solid. The Tilted Kilt is basically an "upscale hooters". All of these are sit down. If you need a quick bite more "fast" there is Potbelly which is sandwiches. If the weather is nice the other great option would be "The Breakfast Club" which has nice outdoor eating (they server lunch too). It is on the second level courtyard between the office building and the Palomar. Just take the escalator or stairs up from First street. That or the Arrogant Butcher would likely be my top two unless you really like Sushi (Squid ink is a nice "modern" vibe).
