Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Park with easy access off N. 7th st and adequate parking(although I was a walkin). I just walked the 0.8 mile loop that does have excellent views of downtown and mountains. There are nice facilities including several picnic tables, toilets and well marked areas. However, they closed off many areas to visitors.

The Quartz Ridge hike was only one hour, and we really enjoyed it. The path was covered with fist sized rocks. The elevation change was just under 200’, so could be a challenge. Lots of hikers, but not crowded. Very limited parking. The local mall has signs that say they tow hikers’ cars. Luckily our rental was still there upon our return.
I quite enjoyed the hike!

While parking was a bit full, it has trails for every kind of hiker. We climbed to the top one day and then took a flatter hike another day. Trails are well marked, safe and clean.

Our first time here and we wanted an easy alternative to Camelback. This was it. Easy to get to, a little challenging, beautiful scenery and nice facilities. We did about an hour roundtrip and with more water could have gone farther. Enjoy.

I lived in Phoenix for 25 plus years, and I hiked this area at least three times a week. Wear shoes with rubber treads, pack a water bottle on a waist strap, cover yourself in sunscreen, wear a hat, sunglasses, a shirt with sleeves over a tank top, and take your time. You're on your own in there, but some of the canyons are breath taking for a walk in the city. Do not...I repeat...do not pack anything out. Leave it just as you found it. If you need further info search the WWW under "Phoenix Mountain Preserves". Enjoy!

On a nice day, the main trailhead for the Mountain Preserve off Lincoln Dr. can be a zoo and parking impossible. But the trailhead at the end of 40th St. south of Shea Blvd. is usually more civilized. And if the parking lot fills up there, you can park on the adjacent streets. The trails start out flat, unlike Piestewa Peak, so hiking is easier but you can go up the Yates trail for more of a challenge. There are restrooms, water and shaded tables at the trailhead. When you leave, head up 40th Street and take a right on Shea. Go east one mile to the intersection of Tatum and Shea. The Fry's grocery store has a very nice outdoor, shaded seating area where you can grab a drink, relax and refuel. There are other restaurants and coffee spots at that intersection too.

We lived a couple miles away from the Visitors center on 7th street and hiked this park 3 -4 times per week. There is a nice variety of trails through the valleys, or up the mountains. North Mountain is a very heavily traveled trail and it seems everyone is just so friendly (even more smiles on the folks who are heading down compared to those heading up ...heh heh). Lots of families pushing strollers up the paved sections!
For a more rigorous hike, head up Shaw Butte. At the top are a lot of communication towers, but a great view of the city. On the back side path down, a detour takes you to a small area with a couple of petroglyphs. Further down the back (West ) side is Cloud Nine! This is the remains of a house, turned restaurant that burned down in the early 60s. A great place to stop for a cool drink (if you brought one) and to take a break. We brought a little blue tooth speaker and practiced our cha-cha and foxtrot. Now we can say we danced on CloudNine!
If you only get to hike once while visiting, and aren't enough of a go-getter to tackle Camelback, I'd recommend this set of trails very highly!

The PMP in mid-town Phoenix is ultra cool. My recommendation if you're not an experienced hiker or really fit, is to start by visiting the 40th St. or Northern Ave. access points. They're largely flat to rolling terrain and you get to experience the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. Yes, you do the treadmill everyday at home. If you want to see if you're fit enough for the much more difficult Piestewa Peak or Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon start, then hike the east side of 40th St. to the summit there. If you can't fly up that one mile summit, then don't even think about those two big climbs. You'll put yourself and others at risk.

We did the 304 trail and it was a easy enough trail. Having just come into Phoenix, we did Camelback yesterday so I was a little stiff and sore but wanted to take in some trails. The 304 was perfect.

Piestewa Peak née Squaw Peak is the one to be bagged at this park, which is largely unimproved. An experienced hiker can make an easy morning round trip, yet every month, especially in the summer, the Sheriff is out making rescues. The culprit is dehydration, which stands to reason, except that too many folks are without reason. You may also want to watch your footing, and out for the only occasional rattlesnake. In general I would: drink before I left the parking lot; carry 3 liters of water; and have a well charged cell phone (you’ll get good cell reception). There are other less strenuous trails available. It would be wise for a third party to know your hike plan. It’s a big place to go searching

Is it easy to get an Uber to and from the Phoenix mountain preserve? I’m looking to experience a trail but I won’t have a car while visiting Phoenix.

Closest hotels I can think of would be the Pointe Hilton, Squaw Peak, Best Western InnSuites Phoenix Hotel & Suites, Arizona Biltmore, Camelback Inn, and The Omni Scottsdale at Montelucia. The first 2 would be the closest that I can think of, Biltmore is closer than the others, but not by much. Those would be the only ones I can think of or that I'm aware of for the area.
