Essential. Offering a fine overview of ancient and colonial Ecuador, displayed in close to 2,000 pre-Inca artifacts, pottery, gold...with exhibits going up and through colonial times to some modern art. Quito has other interesting museums displaying its own well-known contemporary artists... I really don't have time for any more at this time. Except to add that as essetial as this... More

In about 2hours inside & out of this museum I received a great history lesson that tied many things together about Ecuador-only about 40% of the exhibits have English conversions but you get a great feel for culture & traditions as well as geography & customs. It really helped me understand a lot about this beautiful country- It was free... More

This small museum has a nice collection of local artifacts dating back thousands of year, and explains the local history in both English and Spanish. The guards at the door asked to keep my passport while I was in the museum.

Note that at time of writing it is housed in the Casa de la Cultura! The perhaps temporary location of the collection is a bit tricky to find - it is not well signposted if signposted at all. It was free entry and central, so easy to visit, and worthwhile too. There is a large room with information on and... More
