    Highlight of our Trip
Incredible experience - Be sure to go with Piratour they are the only one when you get to go on the island! We were there December21st and there were so many little chicks! Most were just 2 weeks old. Saw Gentoo and Magelllanic Penguins and even 1 King Penguin. This was one of the highlights of a 14 day trip. DONT Miss it!

    See the penguins
We made a stop to see the penguins during a boat tour in the Beagle Channel. There were hundreds on the beach, not bothered at all by the boats. We were able to get an up close view and were able to see one "king" penguin.

    Good thanks to the penguins
This is a very long ride in a van from Ushuaia all the way to the Martillo island. Once you get there, you still have to wait for the previous group of 20 people to come back from the island… In other words, you spend a lot of time waiting and riding in a van until you actually board a large zodiac for a short ride across to the island. Overall, it’s still worth it, thanks to the one hour you spend on the island walking among the penguins.

Amazing seeing the penguins in their environment
Seeing the penguins for the first time live and in their habitat was just amazing. It took us ages to get there but it was really worth it. We left from the Piratur Office by bus, the drive was rather long and tedious but maybe it was because our guide wasn't really Mr. Friendly, so 2 hours on the bus was a bit long. We then got on a boat and after about 15 minutes we arrived on the island, it was fantastic to see the penguins in their environment, we had to be careful as they were hatching. We stayed on the island for an hour which was actually the right amount of time. Plenty to see. The weather was beautiful, sunny and no wind, which is actually very rare. When we got back to Haberton Ranch we saw the museum which was very interesting but we had to do that in a hurry because it was time to go back to Ushuaia. Do they food and water with you. No restaurant or take away food on Haberton Ranch. Those of us who had food had to eat it on the bus. We really enjoyed it but as I said before the guide is very important.

    Great Experience
We have been very lucky to see many things in the world. Our Patagonia trip was also a great experience traveling from Barilochte to Ushuaia capped off by our day trip to Martillo island to walk among the Gentoo and Magellanic penguins. We had seen the worlds smallest penguins in the Galapagos but this was a much more moving experience. It is 7 - 8 hours in total but it is not to be missed if you are in this part of the world.

The trip was worthwhile all round.
We had a very positive experience with Piratours (the only operator with permission to enter the island with groups).
We recommend booking at least 1-2 days in advance and you should definitely bring long trousers and a jacket for the island.
The trip was pleasant, our guide was very friendly and the driver was a great entertainer with his little singing interludes. The time on the island and in the museum was very entertaining and the facts on the way there were also very interesting.
We would come back here anytime!

You cannot visit Ushuaia without a tour to Martillo Island (Isla Martillo) for the Ushuaia Penguin tour. Many places in town organise the Ushuaia penguin tour. But we can highly recommend Piratour Travel as a reputable and fantastic company. They have bilingual guides and top notch facilities. Although $165USD (plus $40ARS/ $0.65USD port fees) isn’t cheap, the boat tour was incredible.

Included is a visit of sea lions, the Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse, a basic but interesting wildlife museum and of course, the main attraction – Isla Martillo. This is where you get to walk with penguins! Seeing Gentoo and Magellanic penguins is assured but we were even lucky enough to see a solo King Penguin. It was actually lost and shouldn't have been there. So we were actually stoked it got lost.

Spending one hour on the island to experience the penguins was a once in a lifetime experience. You'll take a small speed boat, referred to add a zodiac, for a 15 minute journey from estancias harberton. Once off the zodiac, you'll enjoy an up close walking experience of the penguin natural habitat. Wear layers and a rain worthy shell just in case. The guide provided an informative overview of the penguins and various habitat explanations.

We booked the penguin tour with Piratour, the only company approved to bring visitors to Isla Martillo. Our tour was in the morning due to it being New Year's Eve, and we, therefore, were unable to visit Estancia Haberton, but even without it, this excursion was unforgettable. Our guide, Anita, was incredibly knowledgeable and we had numerous conversations with her throughout the morning, not just about the island and the penguins, but all of Tierra Del Fuego and other locations within Patagonia. The tour would not have been the same without her and I cannot speak more highly of her.
The hour on the island goes fast, and you definitely get up close and personal with the inhabitants! Make sure to have your camera ready at all times!

The tour was exclusively operated by Piratour. The guide speaks good english, and they were very strict with getting near the penguins. I felt like they take their jobs seriously, and at the same time still let us enjoy our time with the penguins.

I also appreciated the visit to the museum, and a short stop to these unique trees that face the right!

The resort where you stop to catch the boat is very beautiful. There is a guided tour on it. Penguins are very cute. Some look at you wanting to attack, others want to interact. It's very worth it. At the end there is a small museum with skeletons of marine mammals and an interesting explanation

It was an unforgettable experience. I did the programming with Piratour.
We went by bus from Ushuaia to the place where you catch the boat. Along the way, we already received guidance on the rules, care and respect that we need to observe during the tour.
It's breeding season so we were able to see the adults in their nests hatching the eggs.

Beautiful! See animals free in nature and have contact while respecting their distance and space.

Excellent tour with the little penguin friends. We did the walk with piratour because they are the only ones who descend on the island to really walk among the penguins and it is beautiful from end to end. I recommend wearing plenty of clothing because it is always quite cold 😉. I loved the experience and would definitely do it again.
