Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

While we were in Ushuaia, we boarded a catamaran for a wildlife cruise in the Beagle Channel. We cruised past both the Isla de los Pajaros (Bird Island) and the Isla de los Lobos (Sea Lion Island).
Bird Island and other nearby islands are covered by King Cormorants. A cruise in the Beagle Channel is definitely a must for Bird Island and all of the other sights.

We booked our excursion with Piratours and were very pleased. We went to their downtown office the day before to book the tour and get our instructions, etc... I am glad we gave ourselves some time prior to because we did not have windbreakers with us and had to purchase some. I highly recommend making sure that you are properly clothed. It is cold and windy on the island.

The tour left on time and our guide was a local who was extremely knowledgeable. She provided commentary most of the way to our departure point (approx. an hour and a half away). We stopped on the way at a location where all of the trees have been blown sideways (check out the pics), due to the constant heavy wind.

We arrived at the departure point, which is housed on private land and includes a marine research museum. The ticket with Piratour includes admission to the museum, which houses a multitude of fossils and specimens. Pretty neat. You take a boat to the island, and access is limited to a certain number of people at a time. You are given STRICT instructions not to touch the animals, even though they run right up to you and seem to beg to be touched. It is just absolutely amazing to see all of these penguins in their natural habitat. This island is a nesting site, so you see the penguins in many of the stages of their development. They are amazing animals and very entertaining to watch.

We took the morning Pira tour to see the penguins on the island in the beagle channel.

Maybe due to the fact we have just returned from Antarctica it didn't have the same positive effect we had imagined, but for $800 pesos each I was expecting a lot more. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, but working with limited resources.

The museum at the end of the tour is interesting, shame we didn't have more time here.

The vessel was smooth and staff very good. Not too many penguins at the colony but that could be the time of the year. The whole trip was 6 hours however there is food an drink on board you you wish to buy. The seals were interesting and despite the strong wind the whole trip was comfortable.

The boat trip is good fun, well explained and offers great views over Ushuaia and the islands in the Beagle strait. As for me the best part of my stay in Ushuaia. You can't go there and miss it!!

If you make it all the way to Ushuaia, you have to take the time to gone of one of the many tour boats out to see all the wildlife and scenic views. Many options to chose from. Do your research and enjoy a wonder day.

Our Piratour Penguin Rookery + Beagle Channel excursion included a photo stop here at the Bird Island. Hundreds of cormorants! The boat will get you close enough for a good view. A must for the bird watcher; for us, the penguins were the highlight.

I did the Beagle Channel full tour and even the boat company (Rumbo Sur) doesn´t care much about it and don´t stop at the island.. just pass through it. Mostly probably because tourists are most interested to see the sea lions and penguins.
It sounds strange to me that Tripadvisor make it possible to rate this island if there is no tour that only goes to there. It´s just part of any Canal Beagle tour.
Maybe the short tours, meaning the ones that go only to the Light House and Sea Lions, gives people more time in this island to make their tour looks richer in attraction. But believe me, it might be interesting for the first 5 seconds. Birds are everywhere in the canal.
