Don't miss a visit to this glacier which may not be here in 20 years. The visit by boat includes seeing many beautifully shaped icebergs that have calved off.

Worth the rough boat ride, the glacial winds that literally knock you down, and the 4x4 trek to see this beauty up close!

Argentina passed a regulation that boats can not get closer than a couple of MILES from Upsala glacier, due to safety concerns (falling ice can cause large waves). While this makes sense, you no longer really visit the glacier, you just see it from afar.

I was not particularly excited by the catamaran cruise to Perito Moreno Glacier because the views were gorgeous from the walkways (and it was freezing and rainy on the boat cruise). But, the trip to Upsala Glacier was quite enjoyable. We were in the Captain's Club cabin on the second level and the extra expense was well worth it for the added legroom and comfort. The winds were extremely strong and we were all dressed for a Canadian winter--tuques, scarves, gloves and parkas or several layers of winter warmwear. Though the boat could not approach the Upsala Glacier closely, it was able to pivot in front of the floating icebergs quite nicely. The scenery was magnificent. There were several small waterfalls cascading into the water. We were able to get off the boat when it docked. We took a short walk and ate lunch in the restaurant on shore. The views of the glacier from the restaurant's deck were beautiful. We then rejoined the boat and approached the glacier a bit more closely. Upsala was a different experience than Perito Moreno. Doing both was an excellent overview of the Patagonian glaciers.

A big disappointment, it is receding and the boat couldn’t get anywhere near it. You see it from afar. The fog didn’t help.
