Birders, this is a great spot, very accessible, good trail and blinds, easy flat walking, informational signs. Good illustrated bird list/brochure can be purchased at the entrance. We were there in April, evening and morning and saw over 25 species, including short-eared owl.

Going down perpendicular to the main Libertadores avenue, after a couple of km you get to the water front, the Lago Argentino. Walking towards the right (this means having the water on you left and the town to the right) you reach an encircled area...More

We were strolling along the beach one morning as we'd spotted flamingos from the window of our cabin & noticed a gate to enter the bird reserve. Turns out we'd come through the back and therefore did not have to pay the entrance fee. We...More

Nice walking activity while in Calafate to start connecting with the region. Many different kind of birds meet at this lagoon. Among the more colorful are the pink flamingos that were many when we visit it. It takes around an hour and a half to...More

Saw a lot of different kinds of birds in this reserve in the different ecosystems represented. Some parts of the trail were underwater the day we visited,so we couldn't get very close to a group of flamingos. But all the other birds made it worth...More

We walked to the Reserve from our hotel Xelena . Had a wonderful time exploring and enjoying the views. Saw many flamingos up close. Many other birds were spotted as well. Highly recommend if you have extra time and love the outdoors.

A nice reserve with a 2.5km loop walk and lots of interpretive signage - and birds of course! Lovely on a sunny day and we saw flamingos!

took lots of sunset photos. we didnt seethe flamingoes on the first day, but we were rewarded when we came back the next day free of charge. their pinkness in contrast with the blue skyline was great in the photos.

People walk around the outside and walk into the park via the gates that are on the far side of the park. It is surprisingly expensive to go in there.

The lagoon is located in El Calafate, about 800m from downtown. It has a small trail for you to walk and surround the lagoon and have some views of this one and the Argentinian Lake.

I am staying at the Hotel La Loma and will have a free afternoon where I was planning on going out to Laguna Nimez Reserve. I've read that it is close to town but can't actually find it on a map. Would walking there be an option or would I need transportation? I read that sunrise and sunset are the best times to go. Im assuming the park is not open late enough for sunsets in November? Does anyone know the park hours?

El Calafate is very small, so yes, you can walk to the reserve. I'm sure hotel staff will be able to provide directions & a map. My friend and I went there for a relaxing day after the glacier. It's well worth the walk... More
