I happen to love birding. This reserve is a very short walk from town and definitely worth the couple of hours it takes to walk along the well marked gravel or planked pathways. It is picturesque, quiet and spotting birds is so easy. I saw flamingoes, caracaras, and ibis to name just a few of the 20 plus birds I spotted. Be sure to use the binoculars they offer if you do not have your own. The landscape is gorgeous. In January, the fields were full of blossoms. There are blinds along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

We spent a lovely hour walking around this nature reserve, we are not bird enthusiasts but we enjoyed it none the less. We were a bit unfortunate when we visited, as it was warm with very little wind because there were thousands of midges everywhere. The nature reserve is well laid out but needs to improve opening times as when listed as open online they were closed....! Overall, a pleasant way to spend an hour or so, perfect for bird enthusiasts and none enthusiasts!

An inauspicious Entry area but what a wonderful hour plus walk. Of course for the waterfowl early morning is better. The walk along the lagoon is quiet and peaceful. The marsh plants are still in bloom in mid February. It I provides a beautiful belt as it were to divide this huge lake and the city. The Entry area has a small but informative section, especially for the birds. Use the bathroom before beginning your walk.

It was quite windy and drizzled a bit during our visit this month but that did not take away from the beauty of reserve. We were greeted by friendly staff. There were guide maps in several languages and they had a small gift shop. Most importantly, the reserve was beautiful. The path brought us through an array of colorful and varied vegetation and we saw lots of beautiful birds flying overhead and many many types of ducks and geese in the water. Too bad the pink flamingos were too far away from the viewing points. It was a leisurely walk through a beautiful nature reserve. It is a short 10 min drive from downtown El Calafate or a leisurely 30 minute drive.

We stayed 3 nights at the Cauquenes de Nunez hotel, just a short walk from this wonderful nature reserve. There is a little used road and sidewalk along much of one side, so it is very easy to do a reserve side walking tour. We walked along the reserve after dinner two nights and enjoyed the rich bird population.
