A great location just like all the refugios but a real haven for rock climbers which meant wall to wall people and, in our case, anyway, a lot of music and noise late into the night. Maybe not always like that. Guys running the place were helpful and made some great food.

I didn't stay at the Refugio, but I hiked up to it. It was a nice hike, about three to four hours long, and it is worth seeing the Refugio at the end. Every turn was different, and it stayed interesting. It's a little rough at the end but not that bad. I highly suggest that trail.

You can do this hike in one day (~8-10 hours) but it is an incredible time staying at the Refugio--getting to know locals, the cooks and soaking in the environment. You can stay in a tent or in the dorms. Food is cheap, 90AR$ for a wonderful pizza, wine for 70AR$ a bottle, and hot chocolate for 40$AR. The bathrooms... More

Mainly people are staying for a night at this refugio. But you can easily do it as a day hike. You should take a bus to Villa Catedral (pay in cash, 10 ARS). Trek is well marked, with some easy ascending/descending in a first part (1h). After some point trek splits for two branches: up to Frey and down to... More

For those looking for a more technical hike I would recommend to reach the Refugio by doing the hike which takes you by the ride ("Frey por el Filo"). Can be done in a full day (22km as a steady pace took us 6 hours), although most people take 8 and take it easy. It is challenging and fun, can... More

This is a great day - catch the bus for only 10 pesos from Bariloche to Cerro Catedral and start walking - the trailhead is close to the bus stop and well marked. The walk itself is relatively easy with fantastic views of Lago Gutierrez on the first part. Towards the top the walk gets a tad harder but the... More

The highlight of our trip to Bariloche was this hike to one of the most beautiful spots on our planet. We took the bus to Cerra Catedral ($10.00 peso per person per leg...cash only) and with a bit of looking found the trail head. (Head left at the parking lot until you find a wood carved hiker / trail head)... More

Since we were camping at Coihues it was very easy for us to simply begin to walk towards Frey. We're pretty fast walkers, it took us about 3 1/2 hours. Beautiful hike. The Refugio was clean and cozy and it was nice being able to buy a cup of coffee and socialize a bit. Stunning scenery up there and lots... More

Great hike, scenery is wonderful, woods, mountains, lakes. Once you reach the top, a lovely quaint refugio to stop off in have a coffee and relax, take in the wonderful beauty of the lake as a backdrop. You can also stay overnight, important to book ahead in peak season. Can be easily done as a day trip from Bariloche, 7... More

Located in a high valley just a few hours of walk outside of Bariloche. Don't miss that stunning place! I recommend to stay at least one night, the sunset is great but the sunrise is just amazing! If you have the chance, go on a clear day and enjoy the amazing starry sky!
