The statue stands on a headland at the end of the main beach of Puerto Madryn and is a stop on many organised tours. Good view back to town and the cruise ship port. Patagonia was inhabited by the indigenous Tehuelche, the subject of the sculpture. The monument commemorates the special relationship between the indigenous people and the Welsh settlers who first landed on the nearby beach in 1865. The peoples helped each other, a very different relationship to that of other settler groups who persecuted the Tehuelche.

Set at the far end of the bay this statue is a monument to the Patagonian Indians who helped the Welsh when they first arrived. Good monument and on a great setting, good views all round. It really needs more information boards
