Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wonderful village in gulch, which has many nice things. Its colorful streets, beautiful church, square with craft stands, its people and its history, everything is divine. And the most beautiful thing is this imposing monument, which is above all, with incredible views of the mountains. It also has another wonder, Serranias de Hornocal, which can be done by hiring the excursion or on your own. We loved Humahuaca! Very nice place! Highly recommended

Beautiful place, how colorful, things and scenery to see. Really an unforgettable experience. We had splendid days, it was not so cold despite going in July. We made base from there to Iruya, a dream town or the Serranías del Hornocal.

It's a nice small monument to visit, bear in mind you have to take some stairs and at ~3000m above sea level you might get tired fairly quickly.

The imposing sculpture set high above the center of the town of Humahuaca is a work by Ernesto Soto Avendaño. It was built to pay homage to the Northern Argentinian Army that fought a total of 14 battles in Humahuaca during National Independence War.
The Monument made up of 70 tons of bronze represents the image of native chasqui Pedro Socompa that transmits the news of freedom( even though some people from the region say that the image of the protagonist belongs to Diego Viltipoco, an Omaguaca Indian Chief who helped Belgrano in the Independence Fight).
You will climb the lateral stairs and, at the top, enjoy a panoramic view of Humahuaca. Fifty meters to its left, Santa Bárbara Tower is situated. It used to be part of a Jesuit Chapel which has been pulled down.

I had not heard of this site before the visit. Located above but near the Sargento Gomez Plaza, the first impression has a high wow factor. Same is bolstered by hardly expecting a monument on such a [must use it] monumental scale here. It commemorates those who fought for the independence of the country. It is a good hike but to do done slowly in the very hot weather. Argentinians are justly proud of their heroes of the independence era. Humahuaca should be proud of this monument.

And part of the tour. If you don't want to do the stairs go to the top and them make your walk down, if you have a car there is a parking on the top.

The heroes monument is at central part of town. This is where you will get the Humahuaca sign. The area is great for photos and its an impressive sculpture and photos come out really well.

We walked up the steps to this monument and took a few photos. It’s probably most meaningful for Argentinians who understand the full story behind it. Nice scenery with cactus up top.

This monument is huge and towers over the town. It is not very interesting in itself but is worth a visit if only to see the sheer size of it. The views from the top are also spectacular.
