I LOVE Plaza Francia! During the weekdays, it is right by the Recoleta Cemetery and tons of restaurants and coffee shops. On the weekend, it transforms with the massive feria held there. You can find anything to buy at the feria! There is live music and you can lay in the grass drinking mate or buying a beer from a... More

This plaza is central to a number of the city's main attractions and with some excellent restaurants adjacent. Unfortunately the plaza has been allowed to deteriorate; broken and missing pavement sections, damaged seating, water washouts that have not been repaired, cigarette butts everywhere, very few rubbish receptacles. Some tender care and attention from municipal authorities and it would be excellent.... More

Don't miss the artisan booths all over the plaza every Saturday & Sunday beginning at 11AM, but best after noon since all are not ready at 11. Beautiful, unique jewelry, leather work, and paintings. Bring water, if you will be there long. There are very few food vendors.

The market located here at the weekends is interesting with a wide range of handmade goods available of variable quality and price. However on other days this is a plesant space with some shady spots

Nice green space across from the Museo National de Bellas Artes. There was a really large artisanal fair with many vendors selling their crafts. As you can imagine, many of the vendors are selling similar items, so walk around before you buy to compare prices.

Staying in Recoleta

Neighbourhood Profile
Characterised by the French-style mansions which are the legacy of its aristocratic past, Recoleta is the true “Paris of the South.” Walking around this neighbourhood is an experience like no other in Buenos Aires: its streets are lined with elegant apartment buildings, exclusive boutiques, and former mansions turned into high-end hotels and embassies, which exude an alluring air of sophistication and class. You'll also find a rich cultural scene centred on the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Library, and the Recoleta Cultural Center; as well as some great shopping spots, like the Buenos Aires Design Mall with an artists' fair set up in Plaza Francia every weekend.
