- product-of-canadaToronto, Canada2,477 contributionsDifficult to find reliable tour informationOur hotel was very close to this attraction, and so we walked by a few times. Even if it weren't so convenient, I would say it is worth exploring the area. The property/park at the front of the building is nice, with a Rodin 'The Thinker' sculpture. Palacio Barolo is very close by as well. We also watched a show, Piaf, at Teatro Liceo. This was an amazing experience. I really wanted to do the tour of the interior, and it was difficult to find reliable information (I common theme, I find, in South American countries). Even walking tour guides said we could do the tour. But eventually we found out that it was closed to tours during our visit due to construction.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 February 2024

- SnowyShastaPortland, Oregon2,314 contributionsWorth viewing the exteriorWe weren't able to tour the interior of the building, but it was worth the time that we spent enjoying a walk along Avenida de Mayo and enjoying our approach towards this imposing building. There are parks and plazas leading up to it, and we enjoyed seeing some of the other imposing buildings (like Palacio Barolo) that were also nearby. We were glad that we'd taken some time for an afternoon walk nearby.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 April 2024

This is the congress building for Argentina and is a great building and serves it's purpose in displaying it's importance in affairs. The architecture is impressive and the place can be found a few seconds walk from the Congreso metro stop and is on the Plaza Congreso.

The Stunning National Congress building is one not to be missed. If you can, walk from the bottom of the Plaza towards the building and then walk around it to get the best appreciation of it's size and imposing appearance. There are tours available (free) of both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. The Senate tours are every week except Wednesday at 12.30pm and 5.00pm from Hipolito Yrigoyen 1849. The Chamber of Deputies is Monday, Tuesday, Friday at 1.00pm and 3.00pm from Rivadavia 1864. Passport or Driver's license is required (essential) for entry. The Plaza itself features water fountains, gardens and a host of statues and monuments.

Keep in mind that the building represents both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Representatives offer tours only in Spanish. The Senate side offers tours in English and Spanish.
Sylvia conducts the English. She speaks limited English but is incredibly passionate about her tour. She's been working at Congress for 27 years. She is a wonderful host and guide.
If you want to take the tour, you DON'T make reservations online (like at Casa Rosada). You simply need to show up. But you MUST bring your passport. Don't make the mistake of entering on the Representatives side of the building as no one speaks English on that side.
The Senate offers the service of guided tours of the Palace of the National Congress for free and open to everyone.
During the tour, we visited the most prominent salons, the enclosures of both Houses and the Library. Sylvia also provides information on the legislative function, history, and architecture of Congress.
Tours are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the following times:
• 12.30 pm in Castilian and English
• 17 hours (5PM) in Castilian and English
These are separate tours. Sylvia takes the English speakers and someone else takes the Spanish speakers. Note: Even though this tour is conducted by the Senate tour guides, it does give you a complete tour of the building.
Keep in mind that guided tours are not held on Wednesday when the Senate meets. I don't know if the House of Representatives offers tours on Wednesday.
To participate in the tour, you need to go to the side of the Palace of Congress on calle (street) HipĂłlito Yrigoyen 1849 (this is an address you can tell your cab or Uber). Then go to the doors and go to the front desk to sign in. You should plan to arrive 15-20 mins early because the tour is punctual. Remember, bring your passport!
You really need to go inside and take this tour!

This is a beautiful building with gardens opposite. Please beware in these gardens as thieves operate quite a disgusting trick. As you walk under the trees you may feel as if a bird has done something on you and then some helpful locals will appear to assist you, by helping you to clean the 'bird poo' off your clothes. while you are 'distracted' they will also help themselves to your valuables. Luckily we had been warned about this trick and I was aware of a lady walking very close to me and then I felt this liquid on my arm. I quickly warned my friend and we moved away from the square rapidly. I spotted the same woman, who had been very close behind me previously, hiding a bottle under her coat and moving away from us. The liquid is very smelly but we were able to have the clothes washed. More importantly, we had nothing stolen. Please be very careful apparently this happens a lot in parks and gardens in Buenos Aires.

You won't do justice to this marvellous piece of architecture by taking photos from the outside. The guided tour is free and is conducted in both English and Spanish twice a day at 12:30 and 5pm, Mon to Fri except Wednesday. You have to bring your photo ID in order to get in. My girlfriend didn't bring her ID but was able to get in by giving her personal info. They will also snap a picture of you before letting you in.

We didn't visit the Congreso but we were waiting at the park in front of the Congreso for our free guided tour to the city. Unfortunately, the area was under construction and we didn't realise the danger of the place. This is a typical scam in Buenos Aires. A gang of people are involved. They sprayed some smelly greenish liquid on us which looked like bird poo (we happened to be standing under some birds as we thought it reminded us of Trafalgar Square) and offered us tissue paper and water and distracted us. Then they grabbed our camera bag with camera inside away. Be careful when people appear helpful. Don't bring cameras in camera bag as you will be target. Put them in your normal bag. Cameras are very expensive in Buenos Aires and they sell for good money. There is a market for stolen cameras.

Hi Eddie. I know it’s nearly a year ago, but wondered if you could help. We want to visit the national congress building and you mentioned free tours at 12:30 and 5pm on Monday and Tuesdays. Is the 5pm tour in English, or just at 12:30? Thanks, Keith
