This is one of the greatest experiences in Buenos Aires. Great sport scenery with the best polo players and amazing horses. Great value.Tickets start at $9 (AR$130) for initial matches and for the final start at $23 (AR$340) up tp AR$7700 (US$515). I paid for the whole season (8 matches) for less than US$50. Budget tickets are not numbered and you do not get any chairs to seat on. For a few extra bucks, you can get numbered seatings on the Dorrego side. The fancier side is not worth it in ,my opinion, unless you actually know the people or are a VIP yourself. It seems to me more of a place to be seen than to actually see the matches. Actually, I believe that side tickets (lateral) are better since the field is so huge, that if you are seating in the center, you will have a hard time seeing the goals. Definitely bring a hat and sunscreen. There is an ice cream vendor that sells wonderful flavors (dulce de leche granizado) chocolate chip and caramel! Beers are also available and champagne is wonderful. A bottle will cost less that what you would pay for a glass in the US. The also have half-bottes that are very popular at the Chandon polo bar. Really worth sitting and relaxing there. After the matches end, DJ´s play music and the area across Dorrego (you have to cross over to the other side after the match ends) lights up with people mingling with players and celebrities. Very fashionable. Sponsors have private areas for guests (HSBC, Mercedes Benz, Jaeger Le Coultre) and Nespresso and Stella Artois have their own places too. If you can take the time, do not miss this experience. If you can only get to a match, try the semifinals or the final for the best after party and pageantry with a military band performing the National Anhtem. Arrive at least one hour before the scheduled time in order to be able to have a drink or a bite before the match.

For over two decades I’ve been a visitor to Palermo at all different times of the year for different events and at different levels. Off the bat this is it as far as polo is concerned. Argentina is the best in every aspect of this sport from the players, the level of the tournaments and the horses to this literal Mecca of a polo stadium in the very centre of populated Buenos Aires. Every polo player dreams to play on that field and see their name up on the boards.
The Argentine Open takes place in November and the first half of December which sees the best teams in the world take each other on in this full contact sport. This is a venue for people to enjoy and not quite your Pretty Women scene where it’s all about what shoes you’re wearing. You don’t need to be a polo aficionado to go and it’s the perfect place to loose your polo virginity.
Not so long ago the culinary highlight was a “sandwich polo” (white bread, mustard, mayo, lettuce, ham, cheese, egg and tomato) which BTW was always a winner. There’ve been a lot of changes in the last few years, mainly for the better. There’s a raft of places to eat and drink on site and there’s a pumping after party scene with tickets available. I remember excellent sushi.
A huge improvement this year was the ticketing system. You can buy your tickets ahead of time and have them electronically on your phone, a different barcode for each ticket which is an excellent system and makes life so much easier.
A good thing in theory, but the practical result is that the venue is cashless meaning you have to buy a food card, put funds on it and then use that to pay (even in the stands). Not a great system as prices are inflated and it’s hard to judge how much money you end up expecting to pay. It’s more than a mission to try to get your money back. It has unexplainable smatterings of being taken advantage of.
You may wonder where to sit? Well my recommendation is B central. C is technically the best stand right in the middle, but sit in B central and you’re 1 yard across yet paying a third less. Plus you will get the shade first. Also go for a high row to get the best birds eye view of all the action. However, be aware the stands are very steep.
If you want to be part of the Cool Cats don’t go wearing whites (white jeans) unless you’re playing! Such a rookie mistake to do.
BTW parking can be a struggle, but in Dorrego there’s a multi-storey which is a go to solution.
Now don’t forget that this is of course the jewel in the crown of the Argentine Open, but you’ll be surprised by how much polo is played on these fields throughout a large chunk of the year. Almost all these other events are free of charge with anyone being able to walk in and take a gander.

As a newby to polo thought be good to try it. Confusing where to buy tickets tobegin with but ok in end..dont buy online but buy at site much cheaper..warning they dont accept mastercard to pay and need id -canbe photo of passport. Once inside had no idea where to go what to do and few spoke english to help. Seemed was cashless onsite so you need to download cash or money onto a prepayment card...ididnt do this so couldnt buy food or drink. Polo good fun and enjoyed it..saw two matches at two and four thirty...need to understand this as ticket states 12 but thats when admission starts. There are two fields only one relates to the ticket you get...free to sit anywhere on other field.

We have never been to a polo match before and know very little about it but I have to say we had a wonderful time. Not knowing what to expect, we ordered cheap tickets just in case we left early. On the day of the match, a few tickets go on sale and we were lucky to get two. Of course, it was one of the earlier matches so getting tickets as you get closer to the finals might be more difficult. There are several food and drink vendors inside the park and prices were reasonable - they do nor gouge you like they do at sporting events in the US. The bathrooms were clean and well attended. Plenty of family with young children running around along. Most people were dressed in business casual but a few people (in the expensive seats) were very well dressed. We had such a good time, we are thinking about going again next weekend.

We went to the opening day of the 2019 Abierto de Polo. It was the first time we had been to a polo match, and we enjoyed it very much. There was some conflicting information about when the matches would start, and which of the two fields they would be played on, but we found ourselves in the correct place for the first match. A nice gentleman from Scotland sitting behind us helped us understand the rules, and we quickly caught on and enjoyed the matches. Argentine polo players are some of the best in the world, and if you are in town while a match is being played, it is definitely worth seeing.

I have never been to a polo match before but now I recommend everyone: GO!!! It's so much fun and the Stadium is pretty laid back and casual in Buenos Aires. Fun!!! Be careful when you book the Tickets because only even or uneven numbers are next to each other (160 and 161 NOT).

A glamorous event to attend as a traveler, and a beautiful sport to watch! There are great after parties in the surrounding tents, which provide an ideal people watching scene!
