at roughly one hour drive from Lisbon, the Convento do Cristo is certainly on of the most beautiful monastery of Portugal. Closter, dormitories, church, kitchen are very we ll preserved and give a very good insight in a monastery from templar times. Typical Manuelite architecture, the church is also a particular highlight. To recommend if you are in the region.

An amazing place. Plan at least 3 hours. You'll be happy you did. You can walk from the village but we were happy we drove. You must pay for parking and there is a small entrance fee of 6 €. Be sure you have your camera.

Opens more questions concerning the Knight Templar's and their strong role in Portuguese history. Architecture and Historical interests. Plus other sites around Tomar.

It is an obligatory monument to visit if you are in Tomar or in the neighborhoods. Well recovered and good value for quality.

When visiting central Portugal, this place in the small town of Tomar is a must see location. Like the other two of the "route" words will not give you the sense of it, not even the photos. You've to be inside to get it. Like us, try to visit by yourself because you'll have all the time of the world... More

Very interesting place that embraces history and faith. The Convent of Christ is a well preserved palace on top of the hill over viewing Tomar. Worthwhile to stop there on the route from Lisbon to Porto. We loved it...

On the top of a hill above Tomar, the "Convento do Cristo" is a huge monument between Gothic and Renaissance architecture. There are some masterpieces: - the Charola with its gothic paintings - the Manueline window: and amazing piece of sculpture and fantasy - the main cloister, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture The only bad point is the timetable: last...
