We caught the ferry across from Olhao. It takes about 20 minutes and is in very sheltered waters. Once there we walked for about 20 minutes to the St Antonio restaurant. We both had salted cod with salad and a jug of the house white....More

It is a beautiful place, and as others have said, why travel long-haul when you can be here in just over two hours from the UK - white powdery sands, clear blue sea (algae can happen anywhere, it's called nature, not that we have ever...More

The beach is very wide and has golden sand. Unfortunately, there were so many algae we...More
It’s worth the crossing and the walk. Beautyfull sandbanks. Cristal clear water which is surprisingly warm in comparison with other Portuguese beaches. Went there three time in a row and would go more if the flight wasn’t tomorrow

If you live in Europe don't sit on a plane for 10+ hours to go to a desert island! Go to Olhao and get the ferry across to this fabulous traffic free island to reach an island which is just one enormous beach!
We have been visiting Ilha Armona for almost 10 years and love the simplicity city of the island and it's few restaurants
The Tapas bar A3 and San Antonio near the Atlantic beach are firm favourites .
We had lunch last summer at Tolhinos and...More

The closest town is Olhao were there are hotels and apartments. Olhao also has lots of restaurants and cafes to choose from. The train station is just a few minutes walk away from were you can get to Faro and other towns within an easy and quick journey time and the cost is quite cheap. Armona does have places to rent but I have never stayed on there. It is a quick ferry ride from the harbour, the beaches are fantastic and there are a few restaurants were you can get drinks/food depending on the time of year. You can also get the ferry over to Cultra/Farol which again has some restaurants and fabulous beaches. It depends on when you are thinking of travelling?
