Gorgeous place and beach, went just to Farol as too hot to walk far when we were there. Take cash to pay for the ferry - the kiosk didn't accept cards when we were there.
Restaurants a little pricer than on the mainland as you'd expect, so worth bring provisions with you.

A great beach with good facilities. relatively easy to reach. the village is inviting with good reasonably priced restaurants. You can walk from there to the Farol village, which beach is much less inviting. Chairs and sun canopy on the beach are 15 Euros for 2. Lovely place.

Brilliant day out. As suggested by previous contributor we got ferry to Farol which left Olhau at 11am. We walked along an almost deserted beach for most of an hour and stopped at the end of the boardwalk for a snack and a swim. Got ferry back from Culatra at 3.30

The best island trip! Take the public ferry from Olhao to Culatra village then walk through the village onto the boardwalk to the sea. Then head towards the lighthouse along the stunningly beautiful beach for an hour then chill out at the very cool Maramais beach bar before walking down to the ferry to return to Olhao. Suggest the 11am out and 4pm back.

Ended up in Culatra by mistake! Meant to go to Armona. Apparently there is a beach but didnt find it so sat in a 'somewhat' cafe near the pier waiting for the ferry back to Olhao. Wasnt much to do as everything looked closed and had a wait of about 90 mins for the ferry. Shame i didnt find the beach but saw pictures of it but Armona definitely worth visiting.

2 Lovely meals one Cataplan & one pork. Nice visit for adults. The walk to the beach too long for us so turned back, we’re in our 60s. The small town was delightful. We went there three times, travelling on the very reasonably priced ferry. We usually go to Farol, visited there twice this year but not much going on. We saw people pouring off the ferry to this small town. So thought we’d give it a go, what a pleasant surprise. Plenty of restaurants & bars to visit.

We took the ferry to Culatra then walked right through town to the beach. Walked along the beach to Farol the explored it for a while and caught the ferry back to Olhão. It was January so very few other people around. We did find a restaurant in Farol that was open for a drink before heading back.

Always love this place, just boats no cars, lemon trees, flowers, cacti, dunes, shells, fishermen, traditional houses, cats and friendly people in the bars on the beach. We always eat at the one on the far left as you approach. Grilled fresh catch of the day and wine.
It’s quiet with just locals and the odd day tripper. A nice few hours out with a scenic boat trip. Have used the cheap boat over and also the expensive one.

You need to pack a huge coolbox and a sunshade, then catch the ferry over from Olhao, make sure you go over early in the morning, when you get off the ferry, walk past the cafe and straight through the collection of little shoebox fishermans houses, and keep heading for the beach at the opposite end of where you got off.
AND THEN VOILA!!, your very own desert island, you have 3km of golden shores and there won't be more than a dozen people over there. Totaly untouched, as nature intended, no shops, bars, burgers, nothing in sight but 3k of beach. then when you have toasted yourslef all day, walk back to the cafe wait for your ferry, and pay 2e for a Kinecker (pint) of super chilled Sagres beer. hmmmmmmm. luxury. ............10/10

There are several islands with beautiful beaches to visit from the harbour of Olhao.
Taking a ferry from Olhao harbour at a cost of 1.98 Euros each way, we visited Armona. On disembarked from the Ferry we were offered the lagoon side of the island with several local cafes serving locally caught fish and ice cold beer. A short walk through the picturesque villas brings you to a totally natural and unspoiled beach on the Atlantic side with plenty of room even during the busy times of the year. We did find the sea a little choppy on the Atlantic side of the island but it was still a pleasant day.
The second day we decided to try out Farol and were able to get a ferry from outside our hotel the Real Marina, which stops at Ilha dos Hangares, do Farol and Deserta. You can also get a ferry to Farol from Olhao harbour. Farol is still unspoiled but more the type of beach us Brits would be used to with very inviting water on the Atlantic side. Again little villas and a couple of cafes. The cafe on the Atlantic side provided us with simple toasted sarnies and cold beer, just enough to keep us going until dinner time. The ferry took us to Deserta to pick up some passengers and it is just that, an island with nothing on it so you can get away from everything. Would recommend Farol though for everyone.

Hi we’d like to finish our holiday on the island with lunch and a swim before flying home at the weekend, can we get a shower on a beach/bar/restaurant or anywhere before flying home that night?
We will pay for the pleasure. Cheers

Buenas! Sabéis si hay muchas algas en culatra/farol?
Can anyone tell if there are dirty or seeweed in culatra o farol?
En fuseta hay muchas y el agua no es como otros años pasados.
Mil gracias

Hi Belen
When we visited in May the sea around Culatra was clear of seaweed.
