Visiting Cape Town with my wife for Christmas 2023.
We decided to do the Vineyard Tram/Bus Tour on boxing day.
We chose the Camberley vineyard due to family ties to the town.
I am so glad we did.
This is one of the smaller and younger vineyards in the area that has been around for about 30 years.
Camberley was much quieter and more intimate than the Boschendal we had visited just before.
Situated in a bowl surrounded by beautiful mountains and great views.
The wine tasting area has a small villa with bar and table with a covered patio outside.
There were several choices of tasting on the menu along with some snacks which complemented each selection.
They also have 3 dogs if you're missing your own furry friends. We only met patch though.
So relaxing and chilled experience. So much so we stayed a couple of hours.
We were honoured to meet Joh himself who stopped for a bit of a chat where we discovered the back story to the farm. We also talked about familiar drinking places around Camberley.
He insisted we try his Sparkling Shiraz MCC (Camberley are one of only two who do a sparkling red) and he didn't even want us to pay for it. (Although we did buy a couple of bottles to take home)
If you spend an appropriate amount on wine you get the tastings free as well. Not even Boschendal did that!

If you want a more family orientated, relaxed wine tasting experience in Cape Town area (40 miles from cape town), I would definitely recommend Camberley.

Thank you John and I hope to visit again. Happy New Year.

What an absolute pleasure it was tasting wine here with the owner (John).
Despite us turning up a little later than planned at around 17:00, he was accomodating and generous. If you are tasting wines in this area this is an absolute must!!

Such a great place and unexpected find. We were looking for an apartment to stay at for a wedding down the road and found Camberly through Booking.com. A small place, friendly staff, amazing views and, also, great wine! The winemaker, John, is sooo friendly and knowledgeable. definitely worth a visit and/or a stay.

Camberley Wines offers a small and intimate tasting room that sets the stage for a cozy wine-tasting experience. During our visit, we were greeted by a friendly lady who guided us through their interesting wine selection. Speaking of the wines, they offer a decent selection, including whites and reds. One particular standout was their Camberley Pinotage 2017, which piqued our interest with its remarkable 16% alcohol content. This wine boasts a port-style profile that's unique, showcasing a depth of flavor and complexity that's not overly sweet, making it an intriguing choice for those seeking something different. Ultimately, our experience was positive, and while I wouldn't label this as a must-visit winery, it does present a good choice for a stopover when you happen to be in the area.

We visited yesterday when we asked our tour guide to take us to a boutique winery that was not too touristy. We were delighted with Camberley, especially meeting the winemaker who is a one-man band. We were really impressed with everything, especially the big, bold reds. Thanks so much for a great experience!

John has made and continues to make the best wine in South Africa - a hidden gem that we found many years ago and continue to visit regularly. To see the farm grow and enjoy the excellent wines that are made - a showcase of proof that the love for wine is put into each bottle and also well priced. PS if you get talking to John do not expect to leave there quickly!!

Despite the location and the beauty of the spot the offer is very poor and the place is not clean enough. The coffee machine was dirty and still filled up with left over coffee powder. The bed was so and so...just to be nice....we let you imagine.

There is a choice of four wines to begin with and then you can add another two wines at an extra cost and lastly another wine to finish of. Not enough information was given regarding the wine, but we had a nice time tasting the wine.

We checked into our room on arrival and were shown to our room by the very friendly staff at Camberley Wines. We then had to attend a wedding in Stellenbosch and on our return late at night, we opened our room only to find 2 guests sleeping in our bed!! On contacting the owner, she was nothing short of insulant and disrespectful. She said that she had no record of our booking despite receiving payment. Our suitcases had been packed up and moved to a different room without our consent or knowledge. The room that we were moved to was substantially smaller, did not have a kitchenettte, a view, or the private pool that was advertised. The owner insisted that it was our fault that we had checked into the wrong room, and was continuously rude and disrespectful. We have demanded a refund but are still waiting to see if it will ever materialise. DO NOT STAY HERE

What a wonderful experience! Going by the Platters guide you might be tempted to pass this small winery - but that would be a huge mistake! In the same area as the much vaunted Tokara and Delaire Graff, owner/wine maker John makes you feel right at home with his selection of hand crafted, magnificent wines. He personally takes time to engage with visitors. We need to support these small producers. This one is a gem!
