We visited Alto as part of a U3a group of 40-50 persons on a wine and dine outing. An excellent setting . Parking was adequate. This was undoubtedly one of the best we have attended.
Alto rose magnificently to a challenging situation. The red wines, as expected, were excellent and served chilled on a hot day and well presented by a knowledgeable Hospitality Manager. We gave all the wines above average ratings. My wife and I shared a very good medium rare steak and a correctly prepared Caesar salad ( the poached egg was also soft). The service could not be faulted. We would happily visit again.

One of the less visited wineries on the Helderberg side but don’t miss it. Only 5 wines but really very good and Biltong pairing option also. Highlight is a 2012 ‘port’ which is one of the finest we’ve tasted. Grab a bottle while there’s a few left. Served by lovely guy James.

We had a very professional guy with a lot of good knowledge. All sorts of questions were no problem for him.
The 4 red wines with 4 sorts of billtong meat made a nice winetasting with a spectacular view.
The red dessert wine was the one we bought, because red is hard to get.
Nice route to the restrooms, along the wine barrels

This is such a gem of wine estate. Well worth a visit! Staff, food and wine - excellent.
A short tour by an amazing lady followed by a lovely lazy lunch with some lovely wines. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Also what was really nice idea is you can choose 50/50 portions to taste more of the delicious food.

Definitely one of the best farms we visited on our trip. It is a smaller estate, with a very relaxing ambiance. The lady that did our tasting was very friendly and knowledgeable, and had no problem interacting with us. The range of wines is good, and just when we thought we tasted the best one, the next one impressed us even more. Well worth a visit!

Previous visit to alto was in 1999 and 2009. It was a delight to be back and find everything good that has been stored in my memory since then. Tasting room became bigger and more professional, but the personal touch and clear dedication to the wine remained. Even though a lot of people came to explore/taste the excellent wines of alto, Inge (our host) displayed remarkable commitment to make sure that everyone had a good time and understood the story behind every glass (in whatever language required). Unbelievable experience matching an even topping memory and keeping Alto as a true benchmark within the golden triangle of South-African wines. I especially like the - for me iconic - Cab Sauvignon but all Alto wines are excellent and a real treat to your palate. A truely memorable moment.

We went to alto for the pate pairing. We also ordered some cheese boards. It was deeply disappointing. The cheese boards are ordered in and the service was just poor. The wine was mediocre and the shiraz had cork taint.

I'd suggest that you avoid this wine tasting.

This was one of the smaller vinyards that we visited. We tried 5 wines over a relaxed afternoon, including a fortified wine that would stand up against a decent port. As we found at all the estates, the staff are really proud of their wines & talk about what to expect & then leave you in peace to enjoy the wine. We felt under no pressure to buy, which was also true of the other vinyards we visited. Maybe it was the setting, the afternnon sun, or just that this was the third tasting sesion, but this seemed a really relaxed estate - we loved it!

We arrived on a cold and windy day and were greeted with smiles and a warm and cosy seat at the fireplace! Our host for the tasting was James and he was very friendly and knowledgable. Small but gorgeous winery with a very relaxed feel. Wished we could've spent the whole afternoon to enjoy their incredible wines. Cheese plates looked delicious!

My niece and I had a lovely visit and truly enjoyed the reds. The staff was knowledgeable and informative; professional and loved the dog! It was my nieces first time wine tasting, so she loved it! Beautiful landscape as well.
