About
Hidden Valley Wines offers spectacular wines, breathtaking views, olives & olive oil, charcuterie & cheese platters, picnics, a nature trail. This secluded farm perched on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains in Stellenbosch, boasts a magnificent cellar among its pristine vineyards. Although the winery is a state-of-the-art, gravity fed cellar, it is nestled into the side of the slope and intended to blend back into the environment in time. The building materials, namely stone, wood and glass are purposely selected to present a contemporary yet functional structure. The cellar is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, almond orchards and natural vegetation, each occupying an integral part of the farm’s ecosystem. Sustainable agriculture is a common theme in every approach both in and outside the cellar. The Wine Tasting Centre is open 7 days a week - we invite you to join us.

We took an Uber and thought it was closed when we arrived; it had just opened so it wasn't busy at all. Had a hard time getting service. We tried some of the wine (bit pricey) but were not offered a menu at all so we decided to leave. We noticed the seating area / BBQ by the lake which would've been nice, but we left since we were underwhelmed with the wine and service. We asked the server if we could walk to the neighboring winery (instead of Uber) and she said yes, no problem - but the directions she gave were no accurate AT ALL and it was NOT walkable. (Perhaps she was mad we were leaving?)

Collect your Picnic Basket from the Wine Tasting Centre....

The Basket is full of tasty surprises, and we could hardly finish everything, and a wonderful bottle of Hidden Valley MCC Brut Rosé - a definite if you are looking for value for money.
Apart from the wonderful basket, beautiful setting, Table Mountain in the distance, the pink sunset reflecting on the Stellenbosch mountains - natures music was the hit of the evening … the songs of the birds, frogs and little animals getting ready for the night …. this is definitely a "hidden gem" to celebrate love!!
We have been previous years, and will be back agian.
Thank you for the peacefull, no interruptions, classy and wonderful evening.
A must for the young and more mature (50+ years).
Booking in advance for the Valentine's Picnic is necessary.

Wow red wine and cheese platter. We simply walked in. Amazing view. Service was OK. By the lake one can get food and eat there for a really low price. Wow.

A great choice of wines in a beautiful area surrounded by gorgeous views. It’s a bit far out, but definitely worth the drive. I would definitely recommend the cheese platter. A big thank you to Jack for her amazing service!

Gorgeous setting on the deck. No menu to speak of . Expensive Pizza, expensive wine and expensive Burger. We were blessed with the trio. The pizza was soggy, thick and cake like, replaced after expressing dissatisfaction by a soggy cake like, thick heavy (refunded) pizza. Burger was just average, plastic cutlery and nasty nonproprietary sauces. People complaining around us. Embarrassed, efficient and apologetic waitress that had "heard it all before". Manager "too busy" to get involved!

The Deck is situated on a picturesque wine estate overlooking a dam and up into the olive orchards and wine vineyards, with the Helderberg mountain as a backdrop. The cashier was polite & friendly but regrettably the meal was substandard. The bun was stale on both burgers, my beef patty was over cooked and the edges too charred to eat. The chips looked fresh but must have been cooked in old oil as they tasted awful. At R145 a burger one would expect better. The cashier was apologetic and offered to do something to assist but it was an empty offer as nothing followed. Gaviscon needed for the indigestion.

Environment:
Wonderful views of the valley and mountains in the background.

Food and drinks:
The cheese platter was a big disappointment, no jam, one cracker of each type. When we said we were two and wanted one cracker each, the waitress said she could cut them in half!!!
The sparkling wine comes in and has a very cloudy appearance, but tastes okay and we just thought it would look like this. Never been here before...Drinks a little bit when the manager arrives and asks if everything is ok.
Then after about 20 minutes more, the manager and another lady comes out saying that the contents of the bottle are wrong and ask if we want to replace it. " but yoúre not gonna dye if you continue drinking it"!!

In comes a bottle of normal appearance for a sparkling wine. It's incredible that a waitress at a vineyard serves a wine like this in the first place..

Service:
Arrogant staff trying to be service oriented in combination with poor wine knowledge is not a good combination. We sat for almost 45 minutes without anyone checking if we wanted anything, In the end we had to go in to pay before we left the place.
We were going to eat there first, but after the cheese platter and the treat we decided we should seek out a nicer vineyard.
