Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic drive up the mountain to this monument. €6.00 for 2 people to enter such fantastic value for incredible architecture & great views. The monument has lots of significance in its design & the brochure gives very clear information around the thought put into the monument by the designers.

This is not just a monument.
To begin with: The entrance fee is very reasonable and there is discount for the elderly. The monument is impressive and is kept clean. Lovely to just sit in the gardens once you have walked on the routes or taken pictures from the different view points. After we enjoyed brunch at the restaurant that was very reasonable. The food was great and the view perfect. Friendly service.

Beautiful, majestic, inspiring. Had a short stop in Paarl on our way to Franschoek, so decided to stop in. It did not disappoint. Amazing history and meaning

The nominal fee (30R each) to enter is well worth the cost. There is a good sized car park, cafe/restaurant, children’s playground, tourist information/museum/toilets. The monument itself is spectacular affording amazing views over the valley. There are nature trails, open grassy spaces with picnic tables and interesting vegetation/fynbos.
Take a packed lunch and spend a few hours with the children.

Took my two teenage sons to see the monument and had them read what each portion and spire of the monument represents. Truly is remarkable. Was kind of expecting to be underwhelmed, but really enjoyed the outing and my boys were impressed - and when teenagers thank you for taking them anywhere - you know it was worth it. Should be visited at least once by everyone. Nice restaurant/coffee shop on site as well.

The unique and fascinating history of the Afrikaners and their language - a sister to Dutch - is symbolized in this monument. Far from the traditional Arc de Triomphe style monuments of the last two centuries the Taalmonunent gives a thoughtful form to what makes Afrikaans a bridge between several continents and cultures - Germanic northern Europe and the veld and bush of Africa, and influenced by sailors, pioneers, slaves and soldiers from other parts of the world. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed a brief and unexpected tour by a very kind gentleman (I can't recall his name) who took the time to explain the history of this monument to my American husband during our visit back to SA last year. Fascinating that I went to school close by and never knew much about it, or maybe when you're young these things seem insignificant :) Wear comfortable shoes because it's a bit of a steep walk up.

Wish I could type this review in Afrikaans, the language of the Taalmonument! Lovely monument to visit to see the heritage of the Afrikaans language.
