For many years now my clients and I have been enjoying an evening at Magic Moments with Barry, Sissy & Simpiwhe. For a fabulous evening of warm South African hospitality, a superb meal and world class entertainment, do yourself a favour and book an evening at Magic Moments with this most talented trio. So many of my guests have remarked that the evening at Magic Moments was a highlight of their trip and it’s easy to see why. Being warmly welcomed into Barry & Sissy’s home, sharing a meal, having a chat and then an hour or two of great music and song is a unique experience and certainly something not to be missed. For many days after we depart Oudtshoorn the CD plays on our coach and the toes are a tapping as we remember our time at Magic Moments. What better way to spend an evening in little ol’ Oudtshoorn, “gem of the Klein Karoo”.

Barry, Sissy and Joey are all so friendly and accommodating, I feel my boyfriend and I have made new friends. Overall we ended up going to Barry's 3 times! The first time we rang up and they were full for that evening, however Barry invited us round for a drink and a chat - we spent a lovely afternoon by Barry and Sissy's swimming pool chatting with them about their life and how they came to be doing these amazing entertainment evenings. Barry and Sissy are just that friendly, they make you feel welcome and just being around them makes you feel happy.
We did find out that Joey (who also sings with Sissy and cooks an amazing evening meal for everyone!) does Township tours too. Having not managed to do one in Capetown we booked in to go on a tour with him the next day. The tour was excellent, you are one on one and get to have an honest insight into many different lifestyles in SA, it really is eye-opening.
We then left Oudtshoorn but changed our plans and decided to return to see their evening 'show' a week later as we hadn't been able to see it. However, we had experienced a taste of Sissy's singing when we arrived for the township tour and they found out it was my birthday - soooo sweet of them to sing me happy birthday and do a few other songs for me - an amazing birthday surprise, and Sissy's singing was unbelievable! We returned a week later and spent the evening with Barry, Sissy and Joey and a few others. Sissy and Joey are incredible singers, they really will blow you away. Also, Barry also offered us B&B for the night and so we woke up to bacon & egg sarnies and a hot cup of tea in the morning! I can't say enough good things about this event or these people - if more people were like Barry & Sissy the world would be a happier place..... Just go, you won't regret it.

This review is late in coming as we have only returned from S.A. two weeks ago. My husband and I returned here again after such an enjoyable evening there last year. We were so happy that we did! We were warmly greeted by Barry and Sissy. Barry will collect you from a local hotel, take you into their home and provide you with the most delicious home cooked typical South African meal, with wine included! Sissy, along with her guest performers, will then entertain you with her beautiful voice.. It was a very unique and moving experience. Please give it a go - you will not regret it for a moment. It is something different, away from the normal touristy traps.

What a welcome! Despite Joey, the lead male singer, being sick and the musical evening/dinner being cancelled, we were still warmly welcomed by Sissy and Barry. Sissy did perform for us a couple of songs with her oh so beautiful voice with Barry accompanying on the keyboard. They also offered to feed our boys pizza and bbsit them so that we could go out for a nice romantic meal. What a treat! The next day as we were driving towards Capetown, our 10 yr old said "I miss Sissy and Barry…" says it all. Wonderful couple. We'll be back.

Really a magic moment in Oudtshoorn. Sissy, Barry and Joey are the most wonderful people. You feel at home in a second. After a warm welcome they bring many lovely songs. The dinner is fantastic. We'll never forget what we experienced in Oudtshoorn. We can recommend Magic Moments to all who visit Oudtshoorn.

After reading the reviews we decided to book Magic Moments and so glad that we did. It was an evening of unforgettable entertainment, Barry picked us up from the B&B and took us to his home, where we were made so welcome, the food and wine was delicious, followed by an amazing evening of music, Barry playing the organ and Sisi and Joey the singers. We could not believe the power in those voices and some of the songs they sang Barry wrote for them, what talent! To make the occasion even more special Barry gave us a CD the trio had recorded which we play often in the car to remind us of that wonderful evening. Barry, Sisi & Joey you could not have made us more welcome, if ever we are in the vicinity we will definitely visit again, I wish you all much success and I hope it is not too long before we hear you on the radio here in the UK.

I agree with all the reviews written about these 3 talented, friendly, genuine people who entertained us all evening with their beautiful voices and music, along with the wine, great dinner that Joey prepared, and the special ice cream sundae with Amarula. We had heard about Magic Moments from some friends, and true to their word, the evening was one of the most fun, happy and wonderful experiences we had along the Garden route (and actually more than we expected or were prepared for). We were only there for a few hours, but felt that we had made 3 new friends that evening in Barry's home! He picked us up and brought us back to our hotel, made each of us a CD of their songs that they had performed that evening (some were Barry originals!) and even had a guitar for my husband to play for a couple of songs. I highly recommend making a reservation to visit with Barry, Sissy and Joey for a wonderful, magical evening that you'll never forget!

As Barry welcomed us to his house from outside the front door, dressed from head to toe in traditional South African attire, the last thing I expected to hear was a Geordie accent.
We were intrigued - as I'm sure are most - by the mystery and ambiguity of what the evening would entail. Keeping an open mind - and an empty stomach - we proceeded to accept a drink from the lovely Sissy, Barry's (soon-to-be) wife and took a seat in the garden.
Not long after, we were joined by a party of 6 guests - all one family. You're forced to get to know them, but within minutes, partly due to the free-flowing wine that Sissy presses into your hand, perhaps, we were deep in conversation and it had the very surreal feeling of being reunited with old friends.
Finally introduced to Joey, we were honoured to sample his excellent cooking. He had prepared a traditional South African potjiekos - a casserole to us Brits - which was succulent and undeniably moreish.
After catering for the group's every need, we finally got a chance to ask Barry about how he came about starting Magic Moments, and he repeated his tale without a trace of frustration at probably being asked this question most evenings of his life.
Taking our seats in the lounge, we finished our evening listening to Sissy and Joey perform a multitude of different covers of both classic tunes from the likes of Etta James and Nat King Cole, and traditional gospel that the two of them perform in their local church. Their voices are absolutely beautiful and it's quite easy to see how Barry managed to realise their singing talent.
Time flew by and we left the house at around 12 after spending a good 5 hours with the trio. We chatted for hours, finding out about their lives, and they, equally interested in ours. It was one of the strangest evenings I think I've ever been involved with as a tourist, but I have absolutely no regrets, and without a shadow of a doubt would return again. If you're in Oudsthoorn, make it part of your plans.

We had such a special evening with Barry, Sissy and Joey. They went out of their way to make us feel at home, provide wonderful music and food. It was such a relaxed and enjoyable evening and we would highly recommend this very original evening and the chance to meet special and interesting people. You wont get many opportunities to experience such an memorable evening and its suitable for all ages, so we would highly recommend this. We still listen to the CD and have a good sing song in our car.

I went there with my boyfriend - we are a young couple - and after having done the shark diving, the zip line in Tzitzikamma, the sunset trip in Knysna, the savari and river safari in Addo, the Cango caves..."Magic Moments" evening turned out to be the most exciting experience.
Great hospitality, delicious food, touching live music and the opportunity of meeting 3 people who made music their life engine. We also decided to stay there for the night, taking the B&B solution, and the day after we had a full English breakfast and the opportunity to know more about them and South Africa. If you are in Oudtshoorn this is an event not to be missed!!!!

It will be a very sad day when Magic Moments discontinue. But if it is still there, just call Barry and they will come & get you. You will have a magical night!
