Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Popular surfing spot that offers a steep righthander and works well on a south West wind and a 4-5 foot swell. One of South Africa’s most scenic surf spots. Not really a bathing beach.

Freezing cold water so don’t think about swimming, some brave souls go in with wetsuits. Don’t go too far towards the east end nearbthe wreck as slightly less safe. But a gorgeous walk when not too windy. The sand is stunningly white and often features in magazine photoshoots

This is such a beautiful beach . Never overcrowded ! Although the sea is a bit cold (Atlantic) it’s fine for a dip. You can walk to Kommetjie if you like but for us a short stroll was fine! The beach is also nice to walk your dog or to galop on a horse!

How the SA authorities allow the crime to continue on this beach is amazing. One of the most beautiful beaches in the world. However, a few suggestions follow: Wear no jewellery, take no valuables and be aware. Stay within the vicinity of other people. For years now visitors have been robbed on this beach. The trend continues we have been told and read about. There is a wreck on the beach. Kakapo. Stay away from this. Criminals apparently use this as their "launch pad" and hide-away. The other danger zone is the rocky corner on the right as one enters the beach. Otherwise beautiful. Lovely summer sunsets. The authorities and local people really need to sort out the crime on this beach and in the area. Dangerous but beautiful ...

Yesterday at mid day we were attacked by 4 young coloured bandits near the ship wrack. They have 3 guns and almost killed us. They took everything what we had including watches, money, cell phones, documents etc. There is no police or any other sort of safety staff around the beach. To report the crime you must go to Fish Hoek at least half an hour by car away. If you want to be killed, robed or both we recommend the beatifull atraction of Cape Town - the famous Nordhoek beach

This is a magnificent beach, but slighlty off putting reading the warning signs that you should just hand over your belongings if someone asks for them.

Items to note:
- Parking: There is a car park nearby (that is through the housing estate and just a 10 minutes walk to the sea) that has the obligatory informal parking attendant, so have some change to hand
- Toilets: There are toilets a few minutes minutes walk from the car park
- Robbery Warnings: Despite the warning signs the place feels safe with other beach goers and dog walkers being about (but there are no official people anywhere), however if possible maybe go in a large group, go during the day when other people will be about and try not to go to areas where you could be isolated. The beach is vast so no doubt this could be done very easily
- Swimming: There are no life guards, the sea is freezing (even in the height of summer) and there are rip currents all over the place so I would suggest wading, but not swimming is the dish of the day
- Beach: The sand is lovely, but given the size of the beach is is windy and dog walkers here have clearly not heard about picking up your dog muck so watch your footing

Sadly this place could easily be 5 stars with little investment / effort, but doubt this will happen so to enjoy the effort is on you.

Think kilometers of soft white sand stretching in front of you, horse riders passing by, rocks to sit on and watch the waves as they come crashing on the shore. This is a wonderful beach to walk on, watch the sunset, take photos, play in pools, kick a ball, walk your dog or surf. Bear in mind that the water is freezing so bring a wetsuit. It's a spectacular beach and you can walk all the way to the shipwreck. However, if you do, do not go alone, avoid carrying expensive belongings and be aware of your surroundings as there have been cases of mugging out that way. However, if you don't walk as far as that, you don't need to worry.

My wife and I did a photoshoot for our engagement pictures and it’s quite an amazing place! The wildest part about this beach is that somehow when walking on the sand at a certain distance, the water seems like it’s on a a higher level to the ground which gives a crazy feeling that you might get overwhelmed by the on coming waves! At sunset, it’s an incredible setting for pictures and a quiet moment of reflection. The only downside often is safety! Best to not be alone!

After lunch at the Monkey Village Resort we walked to the beach. It’s a hike so don’t forget anything in the car.

Wide sprawling white sand adorned with an assortment of large and varied boulders with waves crashing all around make for a most remarkable visit.

Bring lunch, blanket and whatever else your heart desires to this relatively abandoned beach. Enjoy the solitude and quiet.

Note: we went in July (winter) but it was sunny and in the 60’s. A welcome break from our sweltering Houston TX.

This beach has an excellent clean look from Monkey Valley Lodge, however it is not always safe to take a walk when no one is around on the beach. Be aware of your safety.
