We took a boat from the Knysna harbour to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. During our visit, there were a number of pleasure craft on the water, and this would be very popular in the summer months. The waterfront area is well developed, and there are signs of the trade and commerce that this harbour was renowned for back in the... More

When we need to relax we pack a bag and go to the lagoon. Always leaving feeling at ease with nature and hoping to come back.

Knysna lagoon is incorrectly names since it is in fact an estuary flowing out into the sea. It is one of the main attractions of Knysna and offers excellent fishing, boating and canoeing. It is also the home of the endangered Knysna sea horse. A tiny and beautiful little creature which is only found in this estuary. The lagoon is... More

The lagoon is well developed with a waterfront and shops. There are a number of tour operators in the area which offer excellent adventure opportunities. The surrounding area is clean and seemed safe. As part of the greater Knysna experience this is a must on any trip down the Garden Route.

The area and the lagoon is beautiful. There is boat trips taking you out on the lagoon and other water sport can be found. The nearby nature reserves and the beautiful green foliage along the banks are really spectacular, everything looked clean... and preserved,

We took out a fishing charter. The lagoon offers plenty of fishing spots all around. Pretty big fish come through but patience and timing is key. Nice to cruise around and relax. Rent a houseboat and pilot the boat yourself. Great all round experience.

Knysna lagoon is the place that makes Knysna worth it. It has amazing views and great quaintness about it. You can spend quite a good time at the shore admiring the views of the heads, the town or the mountains in the back. There is also an abandoned railway track in the middle of the lagoon on which you can... More
