This 75 km historic road was completed in 1883. Rivers generally flow in deep gorges on their way from the mountains to the sea, therefore there are seven passes along the way, hence the name of the route. These are the passes crossing the Swart-, Kaaimans- and Silver-, Touw-, Hoogekraal- and Karatara rivers, the Homtini gorge and the Phantom pass. Knysna Phantom Pass to Saasveld George | 75 km | +/- 1 Hour, 30 min driving time

We travelled these passes by road and on foot. Engrossing. Countless varieties of tree jostling shoulder to shouder with sweet smelling wattle, black eyed susie and so much more. A festival of leaves, petals and exuberant growth. We couldn't get enough.

This is a stunning drive and day out in nature, well worth doing. Some of the roads are gravel - it is a very scenic route

Incredible scenery, experiencing the original road between George and Knysna. What an awesome way to spend a couple of hours.

We decided to explore the Garden Route off the beaten track, meaning the N2. We ended up driving the seven passes drive and thoroughly enjoyed it. The trip took us a couple of hours, but we weren't in a hurry and just enjoyed the road and the lush scenery. The condition of the road was not bad and I do... More

What a beautiful drive through the gorgeous forest. If time is on your side this drive is well worth it. Peaceful and very doable with any vehicle.

Whatva pleasure from old bridges to tranquil rivers dirt roads smooth dirt road corrugated tarred road sections and all under a forest canopy. For a city slicker with an SUV this trip has all the elements of a dirt road trip without having to worry about damaging your vehicle( i did see some sedans on sections of the road and... More

This was a pretty interesting drive. Taking the 7 passes scenic drive was like stepping back in history to when single lane, shoulder less roads were the norm. The road is pretty narrow, but with the dense forest around you as well as the scenic mountains beating oj your door, you'll be much more interested in what's around you. It... More

We are lucky to have so many beautiful places to travel in RSA and this pass is worth a trip on its own. Take it slow and easy and pull over into the view sights - it is worth the time!!!!!

It's was a nice route although due to a lot of trees overgrowing the road, the view was somewhat obstructed in certain areas but that on the other hand was also spectacular.
