This is the main beach area around Hermanus although there are 2 or 3 smaller beaches close by. It's quite an exposed beach so you can expect windy conditions quite regularly which make sunbathing something of a challenge. But you can hire a parasol and...More

My wife and I walked to Grotto beach along the excellent coastal footpath. The beach is spacious although can get a bit windy. The sea is freezing cold but good for a cooling paddle. There are lifeguards on the beach but they are more interested...More

Excellent facilities including Dutchies restaurant and loungers & umbrellas available for hire. Beach stretches for miles so you can find a secluded spot or stick with the crowd. One drawback is that the sea is very cold and there is a strong underflow!

Beautiful Blue Flag swimming beach - well managed and safe for families with small children. Lovely for long strolls along the coast. Added bonus - restaurant nearby where you can have a sundowner - or a meal, before you head home!

The car park at Grotto beach is the start of a 20km sandy beach and the area is totally unspoilt. There is a café and toilets and a life guard at the near end of the beach. We walked along the beach for over an...More

Lovely white sands and great rollers. Fantastic for sunsets along with appropriate sundowner! We were staying 200m away and walked it several times a day. Surprisingly not very busy

It is extraordinarily busy, but always worth a visit. If you are happy to walk a bit, it is a superb beach
