Groot Constantia is South Africa's oldest wine producing estate, (est: 1685). Situated 20 minutes from Cape Town central and one of the Big 6 tourist destinations, Groot Constantia is a must visit. With two fine restaurants, Jonkershuis and Simon's (contact details on website), wine tastings, chocolate and wine pairing, cellar tours and a museum that reminds one of a bygone era, this beautiful historic winery is a popular attraction.

4 of us decided to give this trip a try on the blue bus tour, and I must say we really enjoyed the experience, the cost of the wine and tasting tour was 95 rand PP, this included a 1 hour talk on how their wine was made and wine tasting after that. I thought the young lady who took... More

Went on the Wine Hop Bus tour from Cape Town. Beautiful setting and lovely barn venue for the wine tasting along with fantastic art in the tasting room. Lovely wine glass as a memento .

We took part in the Cellar Visit and Wine Tasting, an "enthusiastic" guide gave us a brief tour and explanation of vinification together with the range of wines produced on site This was followed by a pleasant wine tasting despite being served a "corked" red, an embarrassment that the hostess quickly exchanged

Excellent lunch looking out over the vineyards. Spent a wonderful afternoon enjoying local wine and excellent food while enjoying the historical architecture and grounds. This is the first winery in Capetown which began production in the 1600's.

Every year when I visit Constantia I always make a point of visiting this wine estate for a wine tasting and am never disappointed. Wines are superb and the service from staff is outstanding. I always purchase a few bottles to take home. If I had to choose one estate this would be the one! Well done Groot Constantia. SA... More

Groot Constantia is both educational in terms of learning about wine and also a lovely way to spend time with family and friends, an ideal place to enjoy Sunday lunch in magnificent surroundings. The wine tasting is great value - highly recommend a visit here.

Had a lovely lunch at one of the restaurants in beautiful surroundings. Their wine tasting is R75 per person which includes 5 wines and you get to keep the glass. You can also do chocolate pairing which is R150 per person. If you don't feel inclined to use the restaurant you can take a picnic and enjoy lounging around the... More

Lovely place to visit. You can just walk around the grounds and sit under the shade of a tree. I went on the wine tour and tasting. Great, informative and well planned. Wine is good quality and well priced.

Housed in a beautiful building where you can taste a variety of wine produced by them in the big hall. A bit disappointed that there is no tour of their wine production process or facilities. Nice artworks and decor in the big hall.

This was part of an excursion from QM2, so time was limited. Most of the commentary during the tour of the winemaking process was, unfortunately, drowned out by the sound of machinery, but the winetasting in a separate, closed off, room was well organised and informative. We were then able to wander around the Dutch-style Manor House, which was very... More
