The whole experience was fantastic. Bucket list item ticked. Was apprehensive because of Covid and mumblings from the staff on social media and the news, but never did we feel unsafe. All protocols were adhered to all the time. Ferry only took 70% of capacity and then the tour group was divided in half on the island so groups were small. Tours were informative and our guides very friendly and happy to answer any questions. An extremely good experience all around.

Bad service all round. We were not allowed to change the names on the ticket, the ladies on the phone needs training, they very patronizing. We will never recommend this trip to anyone. Disgusting

We had pre booked this trip via a tour company. I would definitely advise booking in advance as the boats fill up quickly. You are required to turn up 30 minutes prior to the departure time in order to be on board in plenty of time. The departure terminal is not really big enough for all passengers so you are queued in a snake formation, we were at the bottom of some stairs. Once the queue moved we realised there were lots of information boards in the main area which we were not able to read, which seemed a waste. There was also supposed to be a video on the Ferry which wasn't working. The Ferry ride itself gives fabulous views of Cape Town and if you get a seat outside can take some excellent photos. Once you arrive on the island you are seated on a bus and taken off on a tour of the Island, this part of the tour was great but you do feel a little bit herded and at times rushed to get through everything. The second part of the tour was on foot inside the prison itself and this is where you meet an ex inmate who provides first hand experience of life as a political prisoner. The tour culminates with visiting Nelson Mandela's cell, this was a little problematic as several tours converge at the same time and so there is often a backlog. You are then invited to take your own walk to freedom back to the Ferry. The visit to Robben Island is a 5 star experience and with a few tweaks to the experience the museum itself could score the same.
