My wife and I were treated to the most memorable gin tasting experience at this hidden gem. Our host was fantastic company and very knowledgable in educating us on their unique distilling process. The 2 gins were exceptional however it was surprisingly the vodka which blew my mind in how smooth and creamy it tasted neat. I clearly have been drinking the wrong stuff and given the vodka is the base then used for making their gin, it speaks to how delicious this ultimately tasted. We left with a bottle of Empire & Orient plus a better understanding of what true artisan craft spirits should taste like. Highly reccomend…

Pienaar & Son is located at the top of a cul-de-sac we would never have even noticed just driving past. We were welcomed warmly on a winter's morning and were shown the setup and operation of the distillery. We really enjoyed learning more about the distillers and the distillery and of course tasting the vodka and gin on offer, especially the way the tasting is offered. There is no fancy dressing or garnishing so the lovely, smooth spirits get to shine on their own before a little tonic is added to finish off the tasting of each gin product. Our favourite was the spicy, citrusy Orient. We will definitely be back and we can highly recommend starting your day at this distillery if you are exploring gins in Cape Town. There is no parking in the cul-de-sac, and street parking can be limited, so either Uber or be prepared for a little walk.…
