Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The beach at Wilderness stretches almost 9 km all the way to Kleinkrantz. It is, as it were, cut in two by the Touw river estuary. Here you have to cross a bridge and walk along the highway for a bit. Overall the beach is very well maintained. Garbage is collected and there are quite a few dustbins. Most visitors do not make a mess. The water is clean as well. If there is a lot of wind, it is not pleasant to swim, but to walk along the beach is great at all times. There is a rescue service. I felt secure, even after dark.
It is not always clear where you can access or exit the beach. Directly west of the Touw estuary -after a parking lot with public access- there are only private access and exit points at villa's for almost 2 km. I walked up at several of these, only to end up at somebody's garden or for a closed door.

It was only a flying visit but to spend a good 30mins on the beach and in the sea was amazing. To watch the waves were beautiful.
Can understand why no one is swimming its so dangerous in the water the current and under current was strong.
If you are in the area you need to stop and take the views in.

What a gorgeous and clean beach. You can take a really good walk on this stretch and feel very safe. It is littered with lifeguards on duty which is always reassuring.
A great spot for a family outing.

The beach is beautiful & well maintained. It is very clean compared to other beaches we have been. It is inviting for a walk at any given time during the day. Fantastic experience.
The many dogs however were a bit confusing, since there are countless signs that prohibit dogs on the beach.

Wow, this beach is stunningly beautiful. We walked the whole length which took 2 hours. Maybe 50 people on the whole beach? Golden sands & with very little commercial development.

This beach has got to be one of the best beaches in the Western Cape. Absolutely stunning. Lovely beach for walking or running on or sitting and the waves are really lovely

Visited with a tour group and thoroughly enjoyed the beach. Beautiful and clean. Gorgeous sunsets and not too many people at any one time

The combination of lovely sand, crashing waves and miles of uninterrupted beach make this one of the most wonderful places to visit if you want to experience the South African coast. Add wave surfers to the mix and this is a great place to spend a few days by the sea offering a wide range of ‘on the beach’ accommodation opportunities.

Endless sand and ocean, looking North or South, Wilderness beach is split apart by the mouth of the Touw river. It is also bridged by the N2 Highway and a defunct narrow gauge railway. Tends to be principally windy but lovely to walk at any time of day.

Crossed by two bridges, one a highway, the other a tiny gauge railway, the Wilderness Beach is dissected by the Touwsriver Mouth, in Wilderness. We were housed just a little way east at the Mes Amis Guesthouse.
We were able to see this sight from the bridge as we traversed the watery path to the sea by road! The surrounding countryside is quite interesting for most types of wildlife… y'know… homeowners, tourists as well as indigenous species as birds and legged things that growl and bite!Lovely to experience and drive through as we did on our trip to Cape Town itself!
