This is the place to go for trinkets and spices. The market is a beautiful representation of culture. You can get most anything your looking for here. Gifts for you ,your family and friends. The restaurant in the middle of the market has good food too.

Go at your own risk. Not a place for relaxed walking around or, casual shopping. The whole environment is unsafe.

Smells and sights of an Indian market in Africa! Different kinds of chilli powder and spices, in the city center.

A quirky attraction - a must see - I'm a bit defensive around markets as I find being pestered a bit annoying but am able to accept the normal approaches - I got totally fed up with a guy who originated in Harrow UK who thought that because I lived fairly close was a prime target to sell everything he... Wonderful place to visit. All the store personnel were friendly. I would especially suggest the curry shop. The store owner gave a informative presentation on curry spices and how to mix them for your personal taste.

We went on a Saturday about 10:00am because we were told it closed at noon on Saturday's. It wasn't very crowded and there were lots of stalls to buy things. Luckily the vendors were not pushy and they left you alone to look at things. BUT the stuff is the same in each shop. The thing I liked the most... More

We have been traveling for close to 5 weeks and there is not much we have not seen in the way of markets. What makes this one unique is the cleanliness, the orderliness and the politeness of the vendors. We felt compelled to buy some spices and some more tscatchkes as gifts. I guess we will have to recruit some... More

Victoria Street Market is not worth the trip if you've been to tourist shops anywhere else in Africa. The market is a covered two-story mall, housing rows of independent shops. Most of the shops on the first floor feature trinkets, clothing and wood statues aimed at tourists. The shops all have almost identical merchandise (wood animals, tribal masks, beaded necklaces,... Spices, craft, local cloths and some food. In the market and all around shops have the same things. I think is very boring for a tourist.

Went here with a couple of local friends who were keen to show me their local market. I am not sure if it was a particularly bad day but it seemed as though a lot of the stalls were empty and the only things there in the main were fresh fruit and veg, plenty of it but very repetitive. There... More
