Rocktail Rocked out Boat
Feb. 2019 • Couples
What an amazing place. The staff from bar to excursions was absolutely amazing. We were lucky to swim with dolphins, and although we were not so lucky to see some turtles we loved the starry night beach drive. The nature, the Village, the beach, the people: We will be back.

Anniversary Celebration
Feb. 2018 • Couples
After 10 years married, we wanted somewhere special and luxurious to celebrate yet still affordable. Rocktail didn't disappoint. Having traveled extensively before, I wouldn't rate it as the ultimate 5 star experience we've had elsewhere, but it is definitely up there amounts the best places we've visited.
The camp is unfortunately very far from the beach, however there are facilities in place to transfer you too and from the beach should you desire. The only limitation being that driving access is only open from 6am to 6pm so the desire of sunrise or sunset walks are dashed unless you the energetic walking type. Furthermore a trip to the beach must be planned and you can't simply pop down for a quick swim. The food is superb and in excess. We over indulged because you just want to try everything. There are three course for breakfast, lunch and dinner available, with teas and snacks available anytime. The drinks are costly, but that's to be expected at these places. They have a good selection and Junior was even adventurous enough to make us coffee milkshakes very successfully. The staff are all extremely friendly and available for anything you need. We were treated to champagne and a snack platter just because they knew it was our anniversary. We were in the honeymoon suite which is 5minutes walk from the lodge. It's not a walk you want to do regularly throughout the day, but it's worth it for the privacy and view. The room was comfortable, clean and had more amenities than We needed. There are monkeys around so you must ensure you keep everything closed up.
We partook in the snorkeling, scorpion walk, turtle drive and scuba diving. All the guides were friendly, talkative, informative and very hospitable. The diving is a treat, with pristine, untouched reefs and first class treatment by the neighbouring dive charter. We were fortunate enough to see one turtle hatchling on our night drive, and that rare experience was a real treat!
Overall we had a fantastic time away and will most definitely be visiting again.

We wish we could stay a couple of days longer
Jan. 2018 • Friends
We have enjoyed to be accommodated in tented room with a spectacular view to the see and the sand dunes. The room is very comfortable, big bathroom, the shower looks out onto the terrace. Wake up “call” by the birds and monkeys. Room 7 is more private and probably having nicer view than the lower once but a 5 min walk from the dining and pool area along a path. The beach is untouched and goes on for kilometers but it is a 20 min walk from the camp (they have a shuttle service but only until 6pm). Sea is probably never calm there we have seen huge waves every time we have been there but we have had nice walks in the sand along the beach. We have been offered also to have lunch on the beach under a shade giving tent. Don’t miss the turtle drive in the season we have seen 3 leatherback turtles during the drive, one was laying eggs.
We have also went to see the nearby village from which we have learned a lot. Snorkeling on the bit further beach in the warm sea (offered daily, 20 min drives from the camp, no waves) has been great experience as well. Both guides are amazing.

Great Spot and awesome Diving
Nov. 2017 • Friends
Wow, I’ve always loved diving Isimangaliso and Sodwana. Rocktail Bay Lodge as well Mokarran Divers is the ultimate spoil yourself trip. The Luxury accommodation and service on the unspoiled African coastline is superb and one for the bucket list. Mokarran Divers, on-site at the Lodge, show off the magnificent reefs with a seriously underdived site showing off the beauty of this regions sealife.

Unspoiled olastic
Jun. 2017 • Friends
This is one of the easier places to access north of Sodwana. It's possible to drive there with a normal car. In fact it's the only place. Anywhere north of Sodwana you need 4x4 to access the beach.

And what a beach it is. Highly recommend this place. The only negative is the amount of plastic and general "shipping waste" that has made its appearance on the beaches here. But why should we be any different to any other and all the other pristine beach places in the world.

If you have a 4x4 there is a lot to explore in the area. Petty crime remains a problem when you leave your car unattended at some of the other isolated beaches - which sits in the back of your mind, and for me spoils the experience. Car guards are also not to be trusted.

However this area still remains along with the west coast of South Africa the most unspoiled.

Wonderful experience
Jan. 2017 • Couples
We arrived on Friday afternoon at Coastal Cashews for a 3:00 pm pick up for our 3 day stay. The road to Coastal Cashews is really good. So if you can get there, you don't have to worry about having a 4 x 4 to get you through the soft sand and bad roads to the lodge. On arriving, after being refreshed with a cool towel and glass of refreshing homemade lemonade Lizette explained the activities, and the basics of where everything was . Lizette was incredible efficient in making sure that you were booked for the activities that you wanted to attend. All the staff at the lodge were extremely helpful and courteous. Make sure you don't miss out on the Scorpion walk and the forest walk. We were also lucky enough to see leatherback turtles on our turtle drive, with the highlight was having George Hughes (author with 52 years of experience in conservation in KZN there to provide an enormous wealth of information). The rooms were extremely comfortable, clean. Meals where well thought out with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables (not sure how they manage this considering their remote location). We did the snorkeling trip twice. Both times were enjoyable, the first the water was quite rough, while the second time we had better visibility. This is not the maldives. The KZN coast has a much wilder feel to it, but just as enjoyable. The 15 minute walk to the beach is enjoyable and gives you time to slow down and enjoy your environment. We stayed in room 5 which has just a bit of a view of the sea but is still amoungst the indigenous coastal forest. Some of the rooms are higher up and some are lower in the forest. I am sure that all the rooms have their own charm.

Gorgeous camp, turtles laying eggs on beach & amazing warm seas
Jan. 2017 • Family
Just back from an AMAZING 4 day break at Rocktail Camp. We are still pinching ourselves about watching a huge leatherback turtle crawl up the beach at 2am, make a nest, lay 150 eggs and then crawl back to the ocean. We swam alongside wild dolphins, the kids did scuba diving with ragged tooth sharks, we snorkelled with sting rays and did a beautiful forest walk where we saw fluorescent scorpions! We loved our very comfortable and beautifully decorated tent and the swimming pool was beautiful, large, crystal clear and warm. The staff were incredibly kind and hospitable.

The ONLY thing which was a bit sub standard was the quality of the cooking at dinner time but we spoke to the guy in charge who was keen for feedback and ideas and to be fair to him, has only been on the job for three weeks. I'm sure that it will be sorted soon.

We loved it. Wish we were still there!

Casual bliss
Sep. 2016 • Couples
Rocktail Bay was the perfect destination for our wedding anniversary.

The tented rooms are private and spacious. The shower looks out onto unspoilt bush and a little red duiker, if you're lucky. The bed is big and cosy and waking to birdsong is a glorious privilege. The room is a 5 min walk from the dining and pool area along a sandy forested path, so don't pack fancy shoes.

The beach is untouched and goes on for miles, i ran for over two hours and didn't see another soul. Be warned the walk to the beach is a good 15-20mins but means the sand dunes are preserved for future. Snorkeling was magnificent and the guides were wonderfully friendly, helpful and relaxed. The sea is warm and clear.

Food is all freshly made and wholesome, three meals a day with tea and a rusk to nibble on in between. Good plunger coffee and a great small selection of wine.
The rooms from 8 to 12 are a longer walk but more private.

Excellent Scuba Diving
Apr. 2015 • Couples
The diving is excellent at Rocktail Bay, probably due to the fact there is limited divers that go there. I first dived there 14 years ago and it is still pristine.
