This wetland is toured by a boat. It is a broad river cut off from the ocean by sand bars. It is a beautiful setting, highlighted by the many pods of hippos standing on the muddy bottom. The boat gets very close to these hippos. Another highlight is the huge crocodiles seen swimming along - 8-12feet long. There are also... More

We took the Heritage Tours boat and our guide was simply awesome. She didn't tire out from my kids's incessant questioning. We got really close to the animals and it was obvious that she was in control of her boat and the animals' welfare was her priority , not just your typical tourist pleaser. in terms of entertainment, education and... Home of the Zulu’s, Shakaland and the Wetlands. We visited the St. Lucia Wetlands to see their population of around 900 Hippo’s and 1,600 Crocodiles. One Hippo tooth can weigh up to 5kg and their jaws can crush a human like a little tin can. Yet these huge monsters of the river (and a relative of the whale) will not... More

Perfect way to see the incredible wildlife that makes a home in the estuary. The tour boat guide/captain was very entertaining and informative, ensuring we had the best view of the birds, hippos, and crocodiles. You will never be closer to large hippo groups than this !

Very interesting boat trip with lots of wildlife sightings. Knowledgeable captain. And at the parking lot a man selling great little carvings that hold tea lights. Be sure to get at least one.

The area is absolutely beautiful, but because of the draught, the water-level in the lake is quite low. There Is very strict water restrictions in St.Lucia and that is a major concern.

A day visit to this UNESCO world heritage site is an eye opener and a pleasant experience. Well serviced road's with excellent houseboats. The only concern is the lack by the Provincial Govt to restore and upgrade the public facilities. Govt needs to invest in facilities particularly as the 2022 Commonwealth Games are coming to Durban. This world heritage site... More
