A good explanation of the riots in Soweto which were one of the instigations to end mandated teaching of Afrikans (the language of the Voortrekkers) to the blacks of S. Africa. Well done museum - but when we were there, the power kept flicking off...More

It was a chilling experience. Lots of reflection to do... The place is full of history and the mere thought of the events that took place there not so long ago, sends a chill down one's spine. The monument appears to have run into a...More

Unbelievable that a young student stood up to the military to protest Apartheid. As a result there was a major uprising. This is a great tribute to fine young man.

So many lives were changed, so much sadness during the struggle for equal rights. Sometimes it is one individual that gives a name to a struggle. He was a bystander but he became the symbol. This is a very inspiring memorial

Frankly, I don’t recall ever hearing of Hector Pieterson before today. I am old enough to remember the shameful violence of the government against its own people but until today I did not know of Hector’s sacrifice. Hundreds of kids were visiting today...kids the same...More

This is well worth a short visit, as the death of Hector Pieterson was critical in the march toward the end of Apartheid, yet continues to carry significance in understanding the culture of South Africa.
