Even the United Nations Genocide Memorial in Rwanda lists the death of 57000 South Africans of all colors in concentration camps in 1901 as a recognized Genocide, but the expensive but poorly maintained Freedom Park ignores that. This park, paid for by taxfunds at exorbitant costs (crony contractor "fat"?) selects bits of history, sometimes unproven, to exhibit for propaganda purposes.... More

Freedom Park is another of Pretoria's little hidden gems I never get tired of visiting. A visit to this world class museum and surrounding gardens is a must. The thought that has gone into the design of the indigenous garden, the water features and symbolic spaces is most impressive. Nowhere else have I ever experienced the tranquility of this park.... Here is a stunning world class museum in a beautiful building and fantastic parkland. It was built over a period of 10 years and is largely complete, but there are still a lot of improvements they are wanting to make over time. The building itself looks great & the internal spaces & flow invites you to spend time lingering on... More

I'm so proud of the standard, so educational and the space is just such a gem. I really... More

Signposting could be better, but otherwise this monument to the African people is well worth finding. There is a certain spirital feeling seeing all the names of those people who gave their lives to bring equality for all to South Africa.

What an interesting and educational experience. And the staff who work there are so friendly and service - oriented, they made the visit memorable. The museum has so much for you to take in. Allow yourself 4 hours minimum to really appreciate this wonderful gift to my country.

This is an outstanding place. In my opinion, the exhibition which tells the story of the development of South Africa is unique. I think it may be the best example of a museum I have seen, anywhere, period. The reason I think it is so successful is that it roots the story in the spiritual development of the South African... It is intended as a discussion point with neighbouring Voortrekker Monument, since they are in close proximity it is recommended to see both to have a balanced view from two sides of the conflict. It is well made multimedia exhibition.
