- JamieLWisconsinKaukauna, Wisconsin46 contributionsAmazing views but be cautiousGreat hike with stunning scenery. Lots of flowers and saw many seals on north side. Not for the faint of heart. Some areas were scary. There were some ropes and handrails to assist in some of those scary areas. Paper map we received was accurate with numbers/location. Large signs along hike had incorrect numbers for rescue/location and did not match paper map. We helped a couple that would have ended up hiking out to the point as they were confused by numbers on the signs. This could really lead people in dangerous direction on longer hike than intended. We helped them navigate and all made it back safely. Overall amazing hike!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023
- Andrew KOxford, United Kingdom1,278 contributionsGreat half day walking, but only for the fit !Great half day out walking through the park, taking in the views, the wildlife and the flora. We did the short walk as it was a very windy day but still great fun. The paths can be very steep and often require almost scrambling, but it's worth it. There are a number of walks, ranging from 1 hour to 4 hours or more. One of the highlights of our S Africa trip, despite the weather that dayVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023
- KatherineManchester, United Kingdom522 contributionsBe Prepared! We didn’t estimate this trail that turned into a hike. We did the middle route what took 2.5hrs, make sure you have good shoes, plenty to drink and something to cover up with. Its not easy in some parts so I’ll make sure you have a decent level of fitnesses. After taking all that into consideration, it was a beautiful walk with stunning views. It wasn’t busy so you felt like you has some areas to yourself, like the beach. We loved every minute of it and are so glad we completed even if it was 30c plus heat.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 November 2023
- speedqueen09212 contributionsGreat walk - fantastic viewsFantastic walk - we were not sure whether to do this walk as lots of reviews say it’s challenging. It was a hot day so we took plenty of water and some snacks and it was brilliant. We did the full loop so it was about 5 hrs ish in line with the estimated time I’d read. You do need to walk over a lot of boulders on the beach and some paths are rocky but I wouldn’t say the walk is challenging. I wouldn’t do it if rain is forecast though as it would be slippery and quite dangerous. There is one section which might make people feel nervous if they are scared of heights but nothing dangerously close to an edge. The views were fantastic and the seal colony is wonderful.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 3 December 2023

When I arrived at the bottom of the cliff face, they were all talking at once but what came through clearly was" It was so much fun we want to do it again."Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 December 2023
- Aran8879 contributionsAbsolutely loved Robberg PeninsulaAbsolutely loved Robberg Peninsula, it only cost 60 Rand which compared to Storms Bay at 400 Rand is a bargain and SO much better. You see geology in action and see the puddle stone. The walk can be difficult at times but so worth it, the sand dune and views are glorious – definitely worth the detour!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 December 2023
- Pam10012719 contributionsYou will not be disappointed!Speedy, Zulu, Eddie, Xoliswa, Victor, Joseph and our designated taxi driver Johnathan gave us the experience of a lifetime in Plettenberg. Fantastic food, caring and unbelievably kind staff members with instant problem solving when unexpected issues arose, there was broken heating in one of our rooms on the first night, but we were quickly transferred to a new room and a repairman was brought in the next day to correct the problem. Some of the most undeniably kind people work in this reserve. Consistently accommodating and frequent room cleaning/servicing meant we always came back to a perfect room. Highly recommend:)Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 December 2023
- Tita ElvieCanada102 contributionsWhat a great hike!WOW. What a hike. If you are physically able, definitely do the full loop. It is stunning. Make sure to pack water and snacks. You are fairly exposed to the sun, so bring a hat and sunscreen. I think I took a million photos! There's a gorgeous beach too where you can sit in the sand. Also, make sure to visit the kiosk with the drinks and snacks. It was such a blessing to get an iced chai latte after the long hike while overlooking the water at the picnic tables!! Never seen such a cool kiosk at a trail head.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 March 2024
- green_gecko91729 contributionsSo so beautifulAbsolutely stunning and we've travelled a lot. I was really worried about ants since a few reviews mentioned them, but hand on my heart, there was not a single ant on this trail. We went on an overcast day in March, first thing in the morning. Maybe they come out when it's hot or during a particular season? Not sure, but I'm so happy we came here, it was breathtaking. We talked to a local who had hiked the long trail once, and the medium trail once. He said they were more or less the same scenery, just that the long trail was longer. The medium trail took us about 3.5 hours and we stopped a lot for photos.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 March 2024
- Erensia MBloemfontein, South Africa37 contributionsViews for daysWe did the middle length (5km) and the views are absolutely phenomenal. Definitely cannot forget your camera. You do require some fitness as you will be climbing over rocks, walk over dunes and access a variety of terrains. Majority of the Witsand route is spend going uphill and pathways are uneven and narrow at times. You need good walking shoes and cannot forget your water and sunblock. Recommend going early.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 September 2024

Amazing views and LOTS of seals to see.
We did the middle route, which was lovely but far more strenuous than we anticipated. If it was in the uk it’d be fenced in everywhere, which would take so much away from it… took 1hr30, but we walked pretty fast. Expect 2 hours

Done this hike a few times and it never disappoints - one of the most stunning walks available. Basically two options 1) do the round trip hike 2) do the there and back - probably both the same distance (about 9km) but the round trip can only be walked in one direction due to signage and there are some tricky / challenging sections just past the tip. Note these are not dangerous - just a bit of scrambling and keeping the next trail marker in site. They have great coffee at the end as well :-)

Excellent hike. If you feel that it is too difficult you didn't do the research. We did the full hike with 2 children, one 2 years and the other 11 months and it was a joy! Took 3.5 hours to complete.

We did the middle trail. It is not far but a good walk in the heat. When you go down the massive sand dune ( unbelievable ) remember to turn left! Some fantastic views.

What is the easiest walk here? Is it possible to do a walk without ropes / rocks or cliff edges and if so how far might you be able to go? I can do 6 miles on the flat but not good with difficult terrain or precipitous edges.

Is there an entrance fee? Do you still need to pay if you hike with no guide?
Written 19 April 2021
It is a Nature Reserve and you have to pay to enter -guide or no guide- unless the guide has the South African Wild Card that gives you and one person access to 80+ nature parks in South Africa

Bonjour,
Sylvie

Is it dangerous to park the car and leave the baggage inside it? Is there security?

Ciao Cotton Fioc,

Is it possible to do the 5.5km hike with a toddler in a backpack carrier? We are moderately fit, but don't want to walk a very steep trail or a narrow trail with a sheer drop with a child carrier.
Written 15 September 2018
It is well worth the effort to tackle the 1st section of the trail with a child in a backpack and you can turn back at any time to retrace your steps along the trail your have just covered. Rather backtrack than attempting the more difficult sections which are on the south eastern section of the trail.Go as far as you feel comfortable with!!

Ciao Marco
