Just 11 miles off the highway, Painted Rock is a nice side trip. It's a small outcropping of rocks, so little ones, the elderly, or wheelchair bound can easily navigate around it due to the paths. It does have a bathroom. Great way to take a break from driving, stretch your legs, and see the Painted Rocks.

It is well worth the 11 mile drive off of I-8 to see them. Be aware that there is a $2 dollar charge to park and you will need the exact money to put into an envelope and then "post" it.

We were on our way to Tucson and saw the sign to Painted Rock. Decided to go on a whim. Wow what a wonderful surprise. Very easy walk around to see hundreds of clear clean petroglyphs. Great descriptions of what you are seeing.

The park is about 10 miles off Interstate 8 and is definitely worth the drive. There is an honor system fee of $2.00 per car load. The trail is about 1/2 mile and takes about 45 minutes to slowly walk, observe, and read the self-directed notations. If you turn to the right, the first half of the tour is kind... More

Painted Rock Petroglyph Park is an easy 20 minute drive off of Hwy 8 East of Gila Bend. Park entry is on an honours system. It's an easy walk to and around the Petroglyphs (wheelchair accessible) from the parking lot. Picnic tables and washrooms are nearby. The many ancient rock carvings and drawings have remarkably survived thousands of years in... More

To start off this review, Trip Advisor says it is only open Monday-Friday 7:30 am-4:15 pm. Google says it is open 7 days a week, 24 hours. Also the listed phone number for the place is no longer in service, so don't bother calling it . Upon arriving we noticed there aren't any gates or signage stating hours so I... More

The petroglyph site is a 15-20 drive off of the main highway. It is all paved and easily navigated by any vehicle or motor home. The fee is only two dollars per carload and free parking . The parking lot is adjacent to the site which is accessible by anyone including the disabled. Very interesting slice of ancient history including... More

Petroglyphs are always intriguing because you start to think about the people who lived in the area hundreds of years ago. The painted rocks themselves are a very short walk from the large parking lot. They are bunched together, so the walk around the rock pile is not long. There are benches around the area. While the petroglyphs bring people... More

We were lucky enough to have a historian there that gave us more info of the site then was available on the signs. You could hear the passion he has for the history of the area.

Really nice primitive camping with small historical site and trail. Campsites have a fire ring and concrete table. Over 50 really large pretty level sites. No water or dump. About 12 miles off highway on good road.
