Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We waited for almost an hour (we don’t realise the tunnel was 1 way until we arrived). And when we had traveled through ($13) they charged us another $11 to park. There is nothing here!
We went to the local cafe and sat in their deck and they charged us $40 for 2 panini, 2 pallets of chips and 2 canned drinks!
$64 to see a run down fishing harbour with no facilities. Why would cruise ships dock here!?!

I’m lost by the positive reviews about this harbor stop by Princess cruises 🚢 . There is really nothing here! Our ship had over 3000 guests on board, some took excursions out on the water. I don’t know if a handful went into town😳 No one had anything to say really positive about this stop😮 The town is surrounded by mountains, saw those same mountains coming in. Their big draw is driving through a tunnel😂! Just about the entire town lives in one building, population around 300 people🤯 What that tells me is don’t expect growth of any kind! WHY any cruise ship stops here is beyond me other then a simple time filler😒 IF you see this stop on your itinerary, give it a hard pass if you can🤫 Nice views, but you can see better at most any other Alaska town😀 It’s a ghost 👻 town!

I enjoyed a short visit to Whittier. I live in the Midwest, so seeing a beautiful harbor and snow capped mountains next to the water was very nice.
The harbor and town are small, but perfect for a quick trip thru the Anderson tunnel. Lunch overlooking the harbor was fun, too.
Especially on a sunny 60 degree day! If you come with lower expectations you should enjoy a short stay here. With the tunnel rides, walking the harbor and lunch, I spent less than 2 hours here. Lots of good hiking on the way to Whittier, too.

It was like getting into a fairy take book. Most of the residents and workers living in once building? HUH? So much fun to come in through the tunnel and see the multiple business buildings along the harbor. YES, a great place to spent the day if you are not in a hurry and love excitement from a locals standpoint.

The best thing about Whittier is the 2 1/2 mile tunnel that goes each one way every 30 min starting with the train and larger trucks. $13 for tunnel and $15 to park in town.
We had a quick lunch at the Lazy Otter which was small cute and nice.
We were there 8/17 when it rained 4” the day before and 2 more today. The mountainside was roaring waterfalls!

There is not much to do here. One place to grab something to eat and drink and it is super small. No shopping to speak of. But the Salt factory/shop is nice. You only go here to take a boat trip or tour. The glacier trip is beautiful. The trip through the tunnel is pretty cool. Cruise shops come in here, but only to meet the train.

I did a Princess cruise with a turnaround day in Whittier. I had time before the 26 Glacier tour and enjoyed walking around the town and harbour. Just picked up a map from the cruise terminal & explored. I walked up to the school & campground, it was so serene - so many birds chirping. Saw a magpie species that I hadn't seen before. There's a few little shops and I bought some locally made sea salt. If you have time, get out and enjoy the stunning views.

He screamed at the folks fishing the whole time. His mate Brad was great. This was a family trip, thank god no kids all adults. The fishing was fair but the experience with Jody was awful. This site won't let me use profanity or I would give it a better title.

I have SCUBA dived in Smitty's cove for over 12 years, and have historically had to warm up between dives in my truck. Several years ago a warm up "shack" was made available to us. I am writing to express my gratitude for the way the harbor department has administrated the access to the shack. Professional, courteous, and helpful are all terms that come to mind. We at "Dive Alaska" want to thank the harbor employees for making it so easy for us! (007) 770-1778

The harbor and views are not to be missed with the really steep mountains and waterfalls. The town itself is super small and don't expect much in the way of things to do or restaurants. There was a really interesting building on the harbor with cool architecture, but it was a closed hote/restaurant. When we were there - it was cold and rainy. Basically it is a stopover for tourists on their way to ships.

Is there anyplace just outside of the ship in the cruise terminal where you can purchase a case of water at a reasonable price. I will be making a close connection before getting on the ship and won' have very much time.

There is no place that I know of and things move fast in Whittier, except waiting for the tunnel direction to reveres! Have you checked on the availability of purchasing a water package in advance from the cruise line?
