Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In my mind I thought the Japanese island was a big island that needed a large boat to get there. When we went to tourist office in cabo frio the guy there just told us to go to the canal and ask about a boat to island. No specific directions so we asked someone along the way who pointed us to canal. From there we met another man working on his boat who told us to go down to a traffic cone on shore and shout across water. He then looked across the water and waved and then a guy in a small boat came across his name is sergio. it cost 5 reais each to cross. When across we had a 10min walk to a water crossing at a bar to get onto the small island known as japonese island. We walked around the white sands on the island and paddled in the water which was warm and clean. As the island is small we didnt stay long so we made our way across the rocky crossing and after a walkabout there we left and made way back to sergio and his boat and payed another 5 reais to cross back over. It was something different so not time wasted.

Simply unmissable! Ideal beach to go with family and children. Zero waves, clear water and good structure. It's a shame that parking is a bit expensive (30.00) and you have to pay 10.00 to cross by boat, however, there are 2 sides of the island and we didn't cross. Some people go on foot, at low tide. Lots of tents, which I think is a shame, as the strip of sand is quite small. Paradisiacal and beautiful place, I loved it!!

The beach is beautiful, with clean, transparent and cold water, great for those with children, as it is very shallow and without waves, parking costs $30.00 and you have access to Ilha do Japonês and Praia das Conchas. The strip of sand on the island is small, there was a lot of plastic thrown on the sand and I believe that during high season and holidays it can get quite dirty and the strip of sand must be quite crowded.

You can get there basically in two ways. The first would be to come from the end of Praia do Forte and take a small boat that crosses more or less 100 meters of water, charging 15 reais per person for the outward crossing and another 15 on the way back.
The second would be to park your car on the other bank where you can cross on foot or with rowing boats, but there you pay 30 reais to park and walk about 400 meters to get there.
We opted for the first option and were soon approached by people who rent chairs and umbrellas, the prices were not very attractive.
The food is not made on the island and comes packaged in Marmitex which, despite not looking very beautiful, had good flavor and was filling.
It's worth the trip because the water is really unique despite being a little cold, not to mention that it's very shallow and without much risk.

It was very cool the experience, if you want to cross on foot search the sea board and arrive around 9h, 9h30 to catch the low tide give time to enjoy and return on foot. If you want to cross boat they were charging R$25 per person going and going. Good part of the island just where it crosses even pq the back part was with a strong smell of rot and full of urubu in front you can neither see nor feel anything. The lagoon of Araruama was a delight, transparent waters saw many fish and siri, if you have water shoe is a good Pq has a lot of shell and stone on the ground. We found 2 places far to park we got a little lost, but finally we put in the little barbecue that appears in the Maps near the crossing and we managed to park very close. Restaurant with high prices. As we were only going to stay in the morning when we arrived near lunch time we left. It was worth the experience!

The beach is beautiful, with very shallow and clear water. Optimal temperature. Truly a paradise. I didn't cross to the side of the island and stayed at the kiosk tables that were there.

To get there, I used Uber from Peró, and it was a similar price to what I would have spent on parking (R$30). But still, it was worth it for me. We walked along a dirt road from the gate as far as the Uber could go until we actually reached the beach. If you don't want to walk, choose to go by car. There is a tourist truck that provides transportation from the parking lot to the beach, for those who don't want to walk. I don't think you pay anything for it.

I was very sad that the sand and the path to it were dirty and full of rubbish. I left with a plastic bag, picking up trash along the way - guaravita cup, bag of chips, plastic bottle, glass and beer can. Please collect your trash!!!

The experience with the restaurant Sabor do Mar was not the best... I put the prices in February 2024 and found everything to be quite expensive. I chose to eat a fish and potato snack for 3 (me, my mother and my sister), and it served as a "lunch" for us, because we didn't want to pay 200 for a meal. But the food also arrived cold on the table. - Note: it was a Monday, after carnival. The beach was not that crowded. -

I don't think I would go back just because of the abusive prices and because the strip of sand to stay without being linked to the kiosk is small.

Horrible . It stinks a lot! Sewer smell! Lots of trash on the island too. The impression we had is that it's a place that just wants to make money, but doesn't take care of it, doesn't preserve it. We spent $25 per person to cross (okay) but it was wasted money. The smell is unbearable!
