Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fujairah Fort lies in the city of the same name, in the emirate of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.
Although called a fort, I would categorize Fujairah Fort as a castle. It differs distinctively from all other forts in the United Arab Emirates.
Research showed that Fujairah Fort was built between 1500 and 1550. That would be during Portuguese rule over the area, so I think it was probably built by the Portuguese.
It was built on a 20 meters high hill, overseeing the city and the coast, as it is only situated around 2 km from the coast. Fujairah Fort has an irregular ground plan which follows the outline of the rock it was built on. It has 3 round towers and one square tower, which probably served as a keep.
In 1925 Fujairah Fort was restored for a first time. Around 1960 one of the round towers and the square one had collapsed. But they were rebuilt during another restoration between 1998 and 2000.
Fujairah Fort can now be visited during daytime.

One of the oldest fort in the UAE. Built in the 16th Century it is the largest castle in Fujairah.
The fort is located 2km away from the city.
When I visited the fort the main door was closed. It might be a better idea to visit during the day, that way you might be able to get a look inside. The fort was restored in 1997/2000.
There is also a very old Mosque a few steps away from the fort.
Fujairah Museum is also close by.
Entrance is free.

A really nice insight to what the Fort would have felt like and looked like hundreds of years ago!
The Fort has went through a couple of restorations, however it is definitely worth a visit.
Free parking and very photogenic.

A great alternative from the usual malls and attractions is visiting UAE forts like this one. You get to learn about their way of living in the past and their history.

Visited Fujairah yesterday. Went to Fujairah Fort and it looks awesome. Since it situated at the higher ground, I can see Fujairah city from the fort

Well preserved and restored fort. Great views from the top. The museum part was a little light on history and artifacts. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful stone fort in Fujairah. The low stone stairs are easy to climb. Great place for family photos.

This is about 500 years old and is indeed thought to be the oldest fort in UAE.
It is without doubt the biggest fort in the country. It is on top of a hill and looks very imposing from the outside but there is little or nothing to see inside.
The fort was rebuilt between 1650 and 1700. It was renovated in 1925 and in 1965. Fujairah Museum is close by.
Worth a quick photo stop.
