Avila's medieval walls are its most famous attraction and are fully intact around the whole old city. More than half their length is accessible for walking giving great views over the city centre and the surrounding area.

The walls are one of the most interesting parts of visiting Avila. It's fascinating to see how the city would have looked in the distant past.

Climbing the top of the walls of such an ancient city was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed this memory making feat that is still standing today. I wish the entrance fee gave you access to the entire wall. There was a seperate entrance for the balance...More

When visiting Avila make sure to visit its fantastic wall both on the inside (tickets are needed; kids are free) and on the outside (stroll along the park on its north side). Good option after lunch.

We have visited many walled cities but these are 100% intact and the most beautiful of any. You can walk about 70 % and wall back up hills through residential neighborhoods.

This walled medieval city is bigger than any i have seen and it is in really good condition. We were fortunate to get an overcast day so the walk around town and climbing the stairs to the walls wasn't too bad. Be prepared for the...More
