    You don't need a guide
We have travelled from NZL to visit Sapa and Muong Hoa Valley didn't disappoint. The colours were incredible, the mist rolled in and around, stunningly beautiful. p.s. we didn't use a guide, you don't need to.

    Loved Our Hill Walk Here
We absolutely loved our day walking miles & miles through the Muong Hoa Valley, starting with Y Linh Ho, to Lao Chai, Ta Van & finishing in Giang Ta Chai. We learned so much from our guide about the lives & cultures of the Black H'Mong, Flower H'Mong & Tay peoples living here, as well as knowledge about the natural side of the valley's villages. We missed the rice harvest, but the terraces were still beautiful, the bamboo forest closest to Giang Ta Chai was cooling & mystical, the kids running home from school in Ta Van were spirited, the Ta Van homestay lunch was filling & yummy, the mountainsides were filled with greenery, wooden homes, farmers, water buffalo, fruit trees & squash, H'Mong women followed us everywhere looking to make a sale & the hike itself was long, not hard & a wonderful experience into a life unlike our own.

    Lost in the lush
The valley greeted us with its majestic rice terraces, stretching like green staircases to the sky. Serene? Well, until we got lost in the labyrinth of lush foliage. Awe-inspiring? Absolutely—especially when we realized our map was upside down. But hey, who needs GPS when you’ve got laughter echoing through the rice fields? Muong Hoa, you’re a-maze-ing! 🌾

    Fun in SaPa
Very much enjoyed my trip to Sa Pa the local tour guides were great I very much enjoyed the hikes and the sleeper bus home was very nice. The bus to SaPa was old but I guess you just get what you get. For the price the trip was a good price. You need to see this place before it gets over commercialized. Zi Zi guide was great and Phac organizer in town helped out with getting me back to my hotel. The food was overall good breakfast was a buffet, lunch and dinner were set menus and if you wanted anything different it would be at your own expense. If you stay at The View Hotel my room was very spacious but the second night I was there. From midnight to 3 someone kept trying to open the emergency exit door next to my room which would set off the alarm. Front desk did not speak English at night so could not understand me when I called. The restaurant staff was excellent! It was a great trip overall meet great people! A word of advice as you pull up to your drop off spot at night make sure you have order a grab because once you get off you will be overwhelmed with taxi drivers. I took a taxi to my hotel and was ripped off!

Visited this valley after hiking up Fansipan the day before .

A very picturesque valley to visit . You actually don’t need a guide as it is such a heavily visited touristy track- similar to walking in the red light district in Amsterdam , walking along the Venice island route to St Mark square or even walking along New York’s fifth avenue .

You just need your arrange for either private or public transport to the start point and the end point. The trek itself is about 6-10km depending on whether you wish to walk the short route - 6km with a 600m drop in height or the 12km route with a 600m drop and ascend in height - it is a valley after all.

Anyways- you will walk past 3 villages with 2 different ethnic groups occupying the villages and see how the locals live as well as live off local tourism . Though I mentioned that you need not have a guide , do buy some if the local products to help the locals since this is after all a form of eco-tourism . There will be live bugging you to buy their products at inflated prices - remember to bargain . Also do stopover for lunch at the many restaurants . The prices are very reasonable so do have a good meal in these restaurants .

This is a predominantly cemented walk through the countryside and villages with glorious views. We visited in March 2024 and it was misty and cloudy, however warm, and we saw a few tourists on bikes.

We enjoyed the trek, however it was spoilt by the initially friendly village women peddling their homemade wares, who then became aggressive if you did not buy something, or when one of the group bought something, there was an intense crowd around them, followed by small children then doing the same, and the litter was awful.
