I climbed Mount Fansipan in July ‘23, along with my boyfriend (who is a big fan of hiking). Fansipan was one of the first mountains I’ve ever hiked up, after reading lots of reviews we chose Minh (WhatsApp +84 868 139 467) as our guide. Unfortunately Minh was unavailable so his cousin, Chú was our guide. Chú was an excellent guide, he had a strong pace but would make sure to wait for us, and provided a very tasty lunch. it was certainly a hard climb up and I would say you need a good level of fitness to complete it. Getting to the top of Fansipan was a fantastic feeling, at the top Chú even bought us certificates and medals. The high of reaching the top lasted for an hour or so for our climb down. We decided we didn’t want to pay full price for the cable car, although having completed the hike both ways I would highly recommend taking the cable car down for beginners! The way down was going well, until it didn’t, I hit a complete wall and my knees felt like they were breaking. Chú was encouraging and understood how I felt, allowed me as many breaks as I needed. Embarrassment and determination to get off the mountain spurred me on. We took 5 hours up and about 6/7 hours down. It was very relieving to get down, an experience I’ll never forget and would encourage others to try! Minh and Chu were very attentive and even checked in with me the next day.

We went up to the Fansipan Peak via the cable car.. It was an absolutely fantastic experience, highly recommend. The views are amazing . As you are so high up, the air is really thin, so be kind to yourself when walking around and you will need a proper coat like a puffer jacket as its cold.

Probably the best experience I’ve had. Sea of clouds, rolling mist, same altitude as plane seatbelt signs come off, you are flying on solid ground. Funicular up and steps down were fine, air is thinner though, take a jacket, but beyond breathtaking.

The mountain peak is beautiful and the gondola ride and funicular train are engineering marvels. There are 1000’s of steps to visit the Buddha, Bodhisattva, and various temples and pagodas. The grounds are immaculate with flowers and beautiful plants everywhere. My visit was in October and I can imagine the beauty during Spring or before the rice harvest. It was definitely worth the time and effort to make a visit.

After pondering what to do on our final day in Sapa we decided to take a cable car to the top of Fansipan mountain. Was a foggy day but sights were still amazing! Probably the most expensive thing we have done so far in Vietnam but definitely worth it for the photographs!

The highlight of our trip. We were fortunate enough to have good visibility and the views were amazing. The cable car gets you almost to the top. Then there is a tram (for an extra cost) the rest of the way or you can opt to take the 600 stairs like we did. The air is thin so take your time!

We chose to hike up Mount Fansipan on a 2D1N adventure. Did our research prior to this hike and we kept stumbling upon a tour guide named Minh. We contacted Minh and he was quick with his replies and indeed the reviews were right! Minh provided us with all the necessities needed to make our hike a wonderful experience. Minh speaks great english and will arrange everything from hotel pick up, permits, certificate/medal, food when we reach our hut and even had hot pot for dinner as it got freezing cold at night. Minh arranged a private room in the hut to sleep at night with a simple mattress and sleeping bags to act as blankets. You just have to bring your own jackets, proper layering and hiking/trekking gears. The hike was extremely tough for us as we didn’t had the best of fitness levels but witnessed fit hikers took it like a stroll in a park. There were challenging conditions and obstacles and what really hit me was the endless amount of stairs needed to reach the summit. Elevation was gradual so adapting to the altitude was fine but my oh my i repeat the stairs!! The aim for this hike was to reach the top at sunrise to enjoy the view and have the summit all to yourself. Yes! it was only those who hiked and reach the summit at sunrise then you can enjoy the summit by yourselves. If you (like us) are heading back down via cable car then we had to wait till 9am when the cable car ticket booth opened, it will cost you VND800,000 per person, you can pay by cash or card. Which then immediately at 9am you can witness how packed the place got when it opens to public. The view at the summit was very beautiful, we were so high up the you could only see mountain tops and a sea of clouds. Not sure if it was worth the exhausting hike but it was definitely an experience i would remember.
