FIshtale River Guides run guided Alaska salmon fishing trips and tours on the Little Susitna River and Deshka River located a 90 minute drive north of Anchorage or a 45 minute drive from Wasilla. Catch Alaska-sized king salmon, silver salmon, and...more
I can't tell you how good they are at finding fish for you to catch, but i can tell you that when they know from experience that you won't catch any, they will cancel your trip and refund your money. That's honesty and it is...More
This trip was incredible. Andy was an excellent coach and taught us exactly what we needed to do to catch salmon. It’s called fishing because you are not always guaranteed a “catch”. However we caught our limit and have a freezer full of amazing tasting...More
A hard week of work in Alaska was capped off by a beautiful smooth ride with our skilled guide, Greg, who untangled our lines when we snagged, and helped me catch beautiful fish (we barbecued one yesterday). He gave us a nature lesson and a...More
Had a great time with Andy. He put us on fish f they were there. Wish the limit wasn’t so restrictive but that is how they stay sustainable. Season for kings had closed but picked up two chum and one silver for a day limit....More
If you are thinking about heading out to fish on the Little Susitna... Don't! It was really discouraging to have the guides say they were successful in catching King Salmon this year and to be there and see otherwise. After being on the river for...More
Do NOT bring your kids or anyone who has not fished much. Andy is a complete grouch with no people skills. Fishing is an experience that should be enjoyed whether you catch anything or not. Andy turns your day into the ultimate Alaska experience, that...More

I apologize if at times I seem seem curt during a fishing trip. When a group of anglers is casting from the boat, each angler needs to be careful with their casting technique -- watching each back cast to avoid hooking other members of the...More
Took friends from Texas on the Little Su with Andy/Fishtale late August of 2017. Despite a partially inexperienced crew, Andy got us limits on Silvers and ensured that a great time was had by all.
I'm a resident Alaskan that fishes on my own, but...More

Thank you for your kind comments. We work hard to provide our best trip every time out, sometimes the fish are present and respond well. Sometimes we fish hard to catch a few fish or even get skunked. One of the best ways to know...More
Our guide Andy was knowledgable and very helpful. We had a great time fishing with him, there were 4 in our group and he gave everyone ample attention and even helped my friend learn to cast. Andy was patient and informative and on a slow...More

Thank you for the very positive review. I'm glad you appreciated any tips we were able to pass on, and we are always happy to have our guest catch some prime Alaska salmon. Guiding salmon fishing trips is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with...More

Depending upon river conditions, we could be guiding salmon fishing trips at that time to most likely the Deshka River, but possibly also to Little Susitna River. Later in the week your husband will be visiting would likely provide a greater opportunity to catch salmon in the rivers as greater numbers of salmon will be arriving as the season progresses and river conditions tend to improve as well. In addition to fishing for salmon there there usually are northern pike available in the Deshka River system.

Deborah, we are guiding ice fishing trips at that time. Our ice fishing trips last about 4 hours, and are to some extent dependent upon weather and ice conditions. We currently have space to guide trips on the following dates -- March 16, 17, 22. If your group is two people or less I could also guide a trip on March 24.
Most of the fish we catch on these trips run 8 - 12 inches in length. We've been catching mostly rainbow trout, but also some very small landlocked salmon, and some larger Arctric char. We provide all the necessary fishing gear. Cost of the trip is $80 per person, and all guests over the age of 15 years also need to purchase an Alaska fishing license before meeting up with us to start the trip. Our ice fishing trip is located approximately 45 minutes drive north of Anchorage and you would also need to provide your own transportation to the lake where we would meet to start the trip (most visitors use a rental vehicle).
