This was actually one of several totem poles that we saw right in the town of Ketchikan. The history of totems is interesting and I suggest getting the visitor center map so that you can learn where they all are.

This is actually a replica of the Chief Johnson Totem Pole near the walkway to Creek Street. The original, which stood until 1982, was raised near this site. The original can be viewed in the Totem Heritage Museum.

Can't miss this totem pole if you are wandering around Creek Street. Its a replica and it is relatively new. It is impossible to take a good shot of this attraction as it is huge. It is still a fine example of Alaskan Indian carving...More

Nice that they are trying to present some historical scenery in Alaska. Even though its a replica, nice to see something other than jewelry stores on the landscape. Could be in a better location.

If you visit the Heritage Museum in Ketchikan you will understand the significance of totems such as this one and others. Yes, there are many and they can look similar but all tell a story and are a significant part of the area’s heritage.

This totem pole is located very close to Creek Street and Whale park and it is gigantic. It is said to be the most frequently photographed Totem pole in the world. The present standing pole in place is a reproduction of the original and was...More

A most interesting example of indigenous abilities. The cost of purchasing one of the totems of this size carved by a skilled craftsperson is prohibitive on my budget !

Can't get it all in one photo. In fact there is no way to take a photo that truly illustrates how tall it is LOL

It's kind of in the middle of the small city area and so it isn't the most scenic but it is very beautiful in and of itself. It is extremely easy to get to and very accessible if you have a short trip.

At first when chancing upon a totem pole in Alaska it and initially subsequent ones were interesting .... but regretably in a relatively short space of time they all become quite samey - I appreciate the shapes are different but the colour schemes and the...More

This tall totem pole near the north entrance of Creek Street can't be missed. Hard to take a photo of the whole thing but just admire it right there.

One of the many totems that Ketchikan is known for. Interesting that the most important part of the totem is on the bottom not at the top that the saying suggests.
