Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Back in 2018 my wife and I love the trip. So we decided to do another excursion with them, 2022 they seem to change a lot on there ways of doing the excursion...
1. They pack the boats with 6 people instead of 4 like last time, so it takes a while when it's your turn to reel em in. ( No biggie though)
2. If you want to ship your fish after you catch it, I recommend you don't. Here's why, you get about 40% of your fish after they cut it and they say "some parts of the fish are bad" I remember when they shipped last time during 2018, if you connect all the fish after it's been cut, it was the total amount. Don't know what happened in 2022, last they put the smallest hand size cool jelly to keep your fish cold. When we got our fish in the mail, ( literally seconds after the delivery guy drops it off) the fish is room temperature.
The reason I gave them 1 star is after I email them about the situation, her name was Rachel Wiggins. She responded everything in a timely manner until I responded, "the fish was room temperature" she stopped emailing me after she wrote " okay, thanks" and stopped responding. So if you want to roll the dice on shipping your fish for $250. Best of luck.

Booked our Salmon Fishing trip through Disney Cruise line. They split people into groups of 4-6 for the fishing boats. We got very lucky and were a group of 3 on the Big Sky with Captain Heather.
It was great for our 9-year-old daughter to see a female boat captain running her own boat and managing all the fishing gear etc. Heather is a badass and worked hard to get us into some fish. We ended up catching 8 salmon. None were big enough to keep, but that was okay with us as we heard it was exorbitant to ship back to the US.
Overall we had an awesome day with great weather. We heard it is often rainy though, so make sure to pack rain gear.

I traveled to Ketchikan for a wedding with my 12yr old grandson. We weren't doing charters or sightseeing, mostly hanging out with family and friends. This suite was perfect for our needs. Plenty of room to have visitors. A kitchen with full-sized appliances, a coffee maker, a toaster, and a free laundry just downstairs. The cupboards had lots of essentials too. The 2 beds were very squeaky but comfortable enough. There are 2 futon couches in the living room that fold out and even an air bed with a pump. The futons were not comfortable at all and sagged terribly. The room sleeps 6-8 which is great for big families. My grandson loved it and walked down to the marina easily. It has a huge deck with chairs and a gas grill. I did wish for a view. Such a nice outdoor space but trees block the view.
They had a special deal that included a skiff for our use but we didn't use it. A very cool addition to our reservation though.
There are steller sea lions that swim around the marina frequently. There have also been humpback whales right by the marina too. Lots of eagles and bears around. Oh yes, there is free wifi.
I would recommend staying at Knudson Cove and will stay there again.

One of the most beautiful places in Alaska the fishing was phenomenal. We spent a week there caught all of our fish in five days limited every day 30 fish before noon five days in a row. Matt knows how to take care of his client clean every day rooms are clean and the fishing was like I said phenomenal. I’ll be gone every year till I can’t.Ron

We had an amazing time with Captain Heather on Big Sky! We caught so many fish that we could not keep them all, and she went out of her way to make sure that my 5 year old was safe. We had whale sightings so close to our boat that we seriously considered cancelling our whale watching excursion in Juneau , and also saw sea lions and eagles. Highly recommend this excursion and could not be happier!

6, 60 year old plus men on a once of a lifetime salmon trip in Alaska ruined by Capt Heather who berated us for 3 hours on every move we made. Treated us like 2 year olds the entire time. We have all fished many times before and are not novices. We were continually scolded and talked down to and treated like shi!
How we bit our tongues for the entire time is beyond me 😡😡😡

We booked a fishing shore excursion at knudson bay marina. The captain named kevin was angry the whole time. He yelled at an 80 yo man for incorrectly thinking there was a fish on the line. Overall poor experience. Doesnt matter that we caught no fish. It was a hostile environment and very uncomfortable. Never again at knudson bay. We also left formal complaints with the cruise line.

Its called Fishing for a reason. We booked through Holland America and were taken by bus out to the cove. We were assigned to the Katrina Lynn who skipper is Skip. 6 people on the boat with 4 lines out. So we had to rotate. We didn't do very well with one hooked and lost and one catch. However Alaska fish and Game that requires a King Salmon stamp won't let you catch on until June 14. So the one hooked had to be released prior to bringing it on the boat. Nobody out on the number of boats had success on this day. Skip and his wife were very pleasant. So thats why its called fishing not catching

We’ve been in Ketchikan for 2 1/2 weeks, and have been spending most of our time (and money) at Clover Pass Marina. Their rentals were booked for this week, so we went to Knudson Cove and they had several 18-20 ft boats available. Now we know why!! The first 18’ boat they put us in was filthy, and the gas gauge didn’t work. They put us in a different 18’ boat, and it was also filthy and smelled like urine! When we told the staff person, he stated all the staff had the previous day off, so nothing got cleaned. We talked to the gentleman at the marina, and he offered two other larger boats. One was $125 more and the other was $100 more per day. We chose the one that was $100 more and we’re told it was one of their newer boats.
We finally got out of the marina around 7:30 or 8:am. We spent over 2 hours trying to get the fish finder (Lowrance) working. It kept turning itself off, and wouldn’t give the right depth or show the sea bottom. We called the marina to have someone talk us thru getting it to work correctly, but it went to voicemail. We left a message, but never got a call back! We finally got it working around 11:am.
We found a few good fishing spots for Halibut and tried to use the kicker engine to stay relatively stationary (since we were told we could not use the anchor except in an emergency!) We couldn't steer the kicker with the steering wheel because a part was missing linking the two engines to the main steering column. My husband finally found the piece in the gunnel and attached it so we could steer. After all this, we finally got a couple of hours of fishing in, with no luck.
By around 3:pm we decided to pull our lines and move spots. We started the motor, and within a few minutes, the engine revved a few times then stopped. We couldn’t get it started again, so we lowered the kicker engine & started heading back to the marina. We called them again & finally got thru to Pam who said she’d contact someone & call us back. In the interim, we tried the big engine again, and it finally stayed running. Shortly after, Pam called back, and we told her the engine finally started and that we were coming in early.
When we got back to the docks, we tried to tell a staff member what all happened, and he just gave us a blank stare, so we went up to the marina office. Pam was at the desk, and apologized for all the problems we had. She said she would have to call her boss (Matt Burbank). He was out fishing and she couldn’t reach him. She offered to get us on a different boat the following day to make up for today. She did say she would have to clear it with the owner (Matt), and have him call us.
Well, Pam just called back & said Matt refuses to do anything to compensate us for anything we dealt with today, because we had refused to take the first boat offered (even though the gas gauge didn’t work). The man didn’t even have the courtesy to call us himself! We have never dealt with a business person who didn’t have the decency to contact us to hear what we (the customer) had to say.
We will NEVER do business with Knudson Cove again!
Take all your fishing, Charter, boat rental needs to Clover Pass Marina!! They have treated us like royalty, and value their customers!

Before the new owners took over, the food at K-cove was amazing. You always got a great burger, and the incredible sides.
Recently a new owner took over the burger shack, and immediately started serving mediocre FSA burgers and fries. Gone are the days of hand made paddies and hand cut fries.
There was a time when we would drive all the way out from town with the entire family for burgers, shakes and $1 beers while watching the docks.
This last visit will be my last. There are better places to get a burger and shake in Ketchikan, and it's no longer a destination worthy of the long drive.
It's a shame that someone moves here from California and makes a great place mediocre so quickly.

Yes and No
I have seen people fishing for the dock but why when you have a ocean in front of you..
We have rented rods before to deep sea fish.. But I believe you just need to ask to fish from the docks.
