I have hiked this trail a few times. Watch out for bears. Keep plenty of fresh water with you and even pack a light lunch. It is so worth the visit to the falls.

Beautiful river, Russian River. Competitive place for fishing in summertime. Fisherman stand nearly shoulder to shoulder to catch fish here. Sometimes a bear shows up, in that case you only need to be able to outrun your fishing buddy and you'll probably be fine. Traffic...More

Opening night of the season I stumble across a local called Red after his beard sorting through tackle in the local fly shop. He asked am I a fisherman and did I know it's the opening night of the season. Glancing outside at the misses...More

If you find yourself on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska you have to stop at one and view the Russian River. The water is so clean, clear, and beautiful. If you like to fish this river is famous for its salmon run. Russian River is...More

Check out the Russian Falls Hike where you can see the salmon as they attempt to swim up stream. Nice flat, easy hike, watch out for bears!

A well maintained trail with a moderate elevation gain leading to the falls. Lots of salmon were in the pools at the base of the falls trying to make their way upriver. I did not see any bear, but many people I spoke to said...More

We took boat out on Russian River for a day fishing trip. Lots of fish and the river was running pretty strong. Beautiful scenery.

We hiked to Russian River Falls, which was more like a long walk. It's like an old logging road, wide and primarily flat. The view of the falls was nice. We saw salmon trying to jump up the falls. It's a nice spot for an...More

The campgrounds and port-a-johns are clean and well maintained. There are walk ways to and from the river and a handicap ramp, but it is quite long and there is a moderate incline. You could also encounter bears at the river (both black and brown).

A great hike approx 90-120minutes one way. Gentle incline going up and nice decline returning. The falls are magnificent. You can watch salmon jumping in their return to spawn in july and august. Don't forget the camera and the bear spray!

I was wondering about the campground that is in Kenai. Near the Russian River. cost, bugs, and safety from bears. We are driving from north of Detroit Mi.

Hi Debbie, I have not stayed at the campground myself. Are you tent camping or in an RV? Prices for most campgrounds are $15-20 a night for tents and $30-40 for rv's. Obviously youd be safer from bears n bugs in an rv as... More
My husband and I will be visiting the area around Anchorage and Seward in August and the plan is hiking. We would like to avoid hiring a car though. Can any one recommend an overnight/multi-day hiking route (loop) where you start in the same town/place? Or is hiring a car a must? Thanks

Here is a site with the majority of the hiking trails on the peninsula. Several of the multi day treks have rustic cabins along the way that you can reserve, many for free. Some include a free row boat as well when next to a... More
