Small museum!

After finding the Capitol building under wraps we continued further and discovered the Museum. It is small but interesting and the staff are friendly and helpful!

Lovely small museum with very interesting displays of the mining, fishing, life of Douglas and Juneau. Very children friendly too. A maquette of the mountains around Juneau done by high school students is amazing. Don't miss the comic strips in the bathrooms!

There was torrential rain on the day we visited Juneau so decided to visit this museum. Although quite small it was very informative and the exhibits were well set out. What made the visit for us was the lady on the desk who was so friendly and welcoming. She was called Wilma and had moved to Alaska in 1948. She... More

Although we are sad that you weren't able to visit the Capitol with all the facade construction going on this season, we are grateful that you were able to stop by our museum. Our building was built as a public library in 1951 when the population was about 6000 residents. We are listed on the national register of historic places... More

We stumbled into the museum. It was a typical raining day in Juneau although the tour guide was more then happy to still take us on the tour of Juneau. The guide was called Anne. She had a wonderful knowledge of Juneau and could tell she was truly passionate about the city and the history of Juneau. The museum itself... More

This is a small museum but has very interesting local history, local info and film. The lady on the desk was very helpful. Thankfully there was somewhere to put our rain gear as it absolutely poured with ice cold rain the day we were there.

After being let down by finding the State Capitol under renovation, we found the City Museum just a block away. It was well worth half an hour. The information on mining in the area was interesting and well presented. Staff was particularly helpful in finding other things to do in town.

At the end of a busy day sightseeing in Juneau, I decided to stop in at this little museum while my wife was gift shopping. The man at the desk who greeted me was very friendly and informative. The museum is small, but the displays are excellent. I left the museum much better informed about Juneau and its people, especially... More
