Black Rock beach is historically and culturally important to the people of Rarotonga. Facing north-west, and receiving all day sun, the lagoon area is a popular aqua-playground. The prominent black rocks serve as diving platforms into the rock pools below. Black Rock is also the home of Rarotonga's only golf course, as well as the tennis centre and beach volleyball courts.

This is a very popular beach with locals, and always has caught my eye on our circle island drives. Stopped in at high tide to give it a go. Very rocky entry with lots of smashed coral. Water very shallow, coral very dead, not many...More

I love Black Rock and spend several days there during every vacation. The location of this huge Black Rock offers a great day for everyone. Right at the side of the road with an established pathway down to the beach, it is accessible to everyone....More

With so many beaches on offer it was hard to see them all but this one was a gem. Nice location to see some fishes and paddle in the warm waters. Recommended for sure.

Easy parking. Great beach for swimming and snorkelling. There are toilets and an outside shower. You can swim around Black Rock when the tide is in.

We timed our snorkelling trip for high tide so that we'd have maximum water around the coral but it was hopeless and we quickly gave up. The lagoon is so shallow that you spend more energy on avoiding coral and trying to navigate than actually...More

Black rock has these fantastic fossilized coral and shells that are really interesting. Walking around Black rock is pretty easy and the lagoon is beautiful, really good snorkelling here.

We were told this was one of the best places to snorkel so gave it a go, but sadly only lasted about 10 minutes due to my husband slicing his knee on coral requiring 5 stitches. Hence my advice, wear reef shoes and take care...More

This is a great place to swim/snorkel. Water is so clear and plenty of fish hiding around the rocks.

This is the kind of place where you come and get away from it all, there are no major chains, outlets, none, just simple restaurants that serve simple local food and hotels and AirBNBs again which are all independent. It is... More
